I bought all my garage shelving from BigDug and am very happy with it, it is strong enough to even store my engine bits on

This is the kit I bought: http://www.bigdug.co.uk/mega-shelving-deals-c7/sma...

As opposed to a pot of concrete sealer and garage floor paint?

I would rather spend the money on the cars.

Do a proper job once or a crap job twice. Mine needs a fresh top coat but it has been down for 10 years. You need to seal the floor before you paint it.

I went for the 450mm, they are plenty big enough without taking up too much garage space

There's plenty about in the used racking trade at the moment. If you want something slightly more industrial and likely to last a lifetime, them drop me a PM, I'm in the industrial racking trade.

I won't name a company as that would be a shameless plug!

(we do workbenches too)

If you're near a costco then check out the garage shelving they have available. Very solid and sturdy and it was around 35 quid for a 4 shelf system.

Totally agree , they really do have the best shelving system I have seen, got 4 of them in the garage , I think the price has risen to nearly £50 a unit now.

I had some of that Bigdug shelving at first and it is a bit flimsy .

If you have a howdens near you go and ask them if they are throwing out any old kitchen carcases (they're new just old stock) the one near us regularly does it, i ask them to call me when they do and get them for free.

I have some, the interlocking between different packs isn't very good, I found I had to cut off some of them to get the tiles to lay flat.

Does the job though.

A waterproof membrane before the concrete is poured. That is about the only way to 'seal' concrete, otherwise damp will always rise through it.

I've used Screwfix floor paint on mine, been down a year or more, and is looking a bit scratty in places, as I cut and weld and grind and drag steel all over the place. No paint will stand up to that.

I've got to do it again sometimes soon, as I never finished the whole floor before. Finding time to do it is the hard part. Thin the paint so it is fairly runny, so it soaks into the concrete, and put it on as thin as you can, so it dries fully. Put several more thin coats on if you feel keen.

Yes we had the waterproof membrane put down. Then a special concrete base. Then sealed it with something....then painted it. A year on still ok !

Some people swear by PVA, watered down and sploshed on. Other people say the exact opposite. I'd rather the paint soaked right into the surface of the concrete than be sealed out by some PVA goop. Afterall, PVA is just wood glue, isn't it? scratchchin

I must admit, a simple layer of paint makes so much difference in keeping the dust down, and general sweeping of the floor.
