Audi offering free MOT
Booked mine in on thursday and my mate had his A4 done today passed with a advisory.
What's the catch?

Sorry if a repost.

Presumably the catch is when the dealer gives you the winter lube special and changes your wiper blades for £20 plus an hours labour.

That they show you the faults with your car and hope that you get it fixed by them and also to promote them as friendly people. Still worth it though.

They want you in there so that they stand a good chance of getting to do any remedial work on your car.

I would agree with the above however, I just had mine MOT'd yesterday FOC at the local dealer, passed with no advisories. So basically a free car wash and hoover and a years MOT! I was pleased.

Our dealer called up today to tell Dad that they had the paperwork for his A6s Free MOT on the desk but had noticed that the car was not booked in for it and that his MOT had expired on the 14th, he had no idea, it's booked in for Saturday... This thing seems a little too good to be true but it seems not... Nice! I think our Peugeot dealer will do our 308s MOTs for free when it eventually needs it, now I just wish Renault would offer it to me!

INSIDER TIP!!!!

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS Book your first MOT before the 3 years is up, every one forgets the first one.

I dont mean for the obvious fact that you dont have an MOT will void your insurance and get a nasty fine as you pass an ANPR camera unaware of your mistake.

But the fact that the warranty runs out at 3 years also, so anything that isnt wear and tear (tyres brakes etc) that it may fail on will be covered by the warranty, so can be fixed for free.

Also ask the dealer to do an end of warranty check, not somthing Audi UK approve of (so you wont ever see it advertised), but good customer service to have a good look over the car for anything wrong just before the warranty runs out.

Ah yes, we had that issue last year when the car hit 3yrs old, we thought it was July 14th, but I suddenly found out on June 12th that it was actually June 14th, the car was booked in immediately for a piece of plastic trim on the side of the centre console and a rear light cluster to be replaced, it went in and the Audi Centres MOT kit failed on that day and it had to go to the local vilage garage for it...
He's quite worried now, he's done a few hundred miles since it expired, is there anyway of finding out where there are ANPR cameras?

The vast majority are mobile I think - probably on just about every traffic car you'll see nowadays, so it's not like you can pick a route to avoid them. I'd get the MoT done sharpish...

Yeah, he's got it booked for Saturday Morning and isn't using that car, but he did a few hundred miles before he realised and just wondered whether he was likely to have past any so as to know whether or not to expect a fine of some sort

I don't think the ANPR systems are linked to any automated fine generating systems like speed cameras are, so if he wasn't stopped he should be fine.

ANPR are a" there and then" sort of thing so tell him not to sweat over it.
I remember getting pulled 3 hours after buying, taxing and insuring my car. Apparently the DVLA don't update their computer immediately.
We all stood at the side of the road busting a gut laughing over that ..... not

I took advantage of the free MOT. Cost me £250 but would have only saved 30% by going indie for the faults so not a bad deal given it keeps the service history totally main dealer. Combined it with a discounted service.

The A6 passed with no advisories, nothing to pay, zilch, zippo, that's that kind of Audi service Dad likes to see!! Car is still dirty though.

I did this a couple of months ago with our 2002 A6, the car passed the MOT and it was washed and hoovered! Chingford Audi.

Your insurance is not necessarily void if you don't have an MOT, it is not a requirement of insurance policies, the requirement is that your vehicle is roadworthy, and the absence of an MOT is not an indicator of that. If your car is/was roadworthy at the time of an accident, they will pay out and the onus is on them to prove otherwise, not the other way around.

Yes, if you are caught without an MOT it's a max £1000 fine. But no points (another myth). You can however get a bigger fine than this if your car is unroadworthy even if you have an MOT. It's entirely about ROADWORTHINESS, not whether you have an MOT or not.

So many scare mongering myths persist about insurance. Winter tyres and aftermarket alloy wheels voiding insurance are two of may favourites.
