I'd say avoid it like the plague. I was at last years event, and it was a total farce.

Their timing equipment didnt work for most of the day, the event was badly orgaanised. And to add to it.....the distance wasnt even 1mile, yet they didnt seem to tell too many people this.

It had been reduced to circa 7/8th mile as apparently a rabbit ate through the cables during the night, so they had to shorten them.

I did eventually confirm with my own AX-22 GPS timing equipment, that it was some 600feet short of a mile.

The only one redeeming factor about it...was some of the ladies directing the cars at the event were very nice lol.

Checking their website...even it doesnt work properly. You cant even see the results from last year.

Avoid Avoid Avoid.

Bit pointless having people pay over a hundred quid to enter, drive hundreds of miles at great expensve, to race at a standing mile event, that isnt a mile long, and where the timing gear doesnt work.

Remind me of the good bits again ?

And as I say..if their website doesnt even work, what chance have they of organising the rest.

If it had been their first event...you could overlook some teething problems...but it wasnt.

Good luck to anyone who does decide to attend though. They wont ever be getting any of my money again though.

No offence, (and before anyone asks no I don't have any interest in this event other than as a participant!) but the video of last years event doesn't make look like a farce.....

www.youtube.com/watch?v=299Z1tf8m2A&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ffightingtorque%2Eorg%2Fsupercar%2Findex%2Ephp%3Foption%3Dcom%5Fcontent%26task%3Dview%26id%3D96%26Itemid%3D148&feature=player_embedded

I appreciate that at any event there will be hitches, but I am also not that fussed about their timing gear/where i come in the listings.

My sole reason for doing this and VMAX is to give me the opportunity to blast my car to the best of my/its ability in a relatively safe environment.

I personally dont build a 600bhp+ car to have it sit around not being used and be satisfied with just looking at my latest Dyno result...

So even though It may not have reached all expectations last year I say you don't know till you try??

So the video shows some proper content ?

Ask some of the entrants of last years event...many were not amused.

One being myself.

I do understand what you are saying. But I drove over 500 miles to get there, to see what my car would do at a proepr standing mile. That was a ferry trip across, and hotels included. Not a cheap weekend by any means. Then the entrance fee.

First off....until about 2pm, their timing gear didnt work. Thats usually rather important at such an event.

They ranted at the start about their standing mile.....yet forgot to tell everyone it wasnt a mile, it was 7/8th mile.
Not exactly fair to anyone, especially if they want to make comparisons with that benchmark.

When someone told me it wasnt a mile early in the dayk and the reason...naturally I thought it was a joke. Not so. Even near the end of the day...they stil hadnt informed anyone that it wasnt a mile, until the rumours got around, and eventually they admitted to people who asked. But only to those who asked.

Thrashing the life out of the car repeatedly to try and get good results...when no results are being given, is never good. Why was it I paid to be at the event ???

Obviously the day turned out badly for me, due to mechanical problems...

Had their timing gear been working, I wouldnt have been running needlessly throughout the day, and this might not have happened. Annoyingly, the only proper timed run I got....was when my engine blew before the line.

Then after the event, when the results did appear online.....they have my car attached to some strange foreign name ?? Like WTF ? If there were any prizes, god knows who got them, if indeed anyone.

The fastest car there, arrived, and was taken away on a trailer. I found that a little odd too. I thought it was strictly about road cars. Not drag cars with no interiors, and packing parachutes, trailer bound.
Although it did put in a superb performance.

Im sure some people did take a pleasant experience from the event. It just depends what you expected for your money.

I only expect value for money, and for the event to run as it should. Not an awful lot to ask really.

This was always my beef with TOTB. We would drive hundreds of miles, get to the hotel and find numerous car in the car park on trailers. Next morning on the way to the event, you would see cars being unloaded from trailers close to the event and "driven" in.

Most cars at TOTB arrive on trailers, and are in no way road cars. Some people even moaned about having to tax their cars for the event !!!! I dont think anyone hides the fact that they trailer them now.

Sadly...even the situation I'm in at the minute means that if Im attending this year...I might even be on a trailer.
I was last year too...although its hard to take in Santa Pod and Elvington in the same weekend with different tyres, without such support in the background.

I'll be doing the same this year hopefully...and its just a lot cheaper to bring it on a trailer. It'll probably be the only events I make it to this year, unless I can get plenty of work in.

^ You're so far away I can understand the need for a trailer as a backup. Having the AA take you back to NI must be a very boring experience, not to mention incredibly slow and you miss your ferry crossing.

Damn this sounded like a pretty worthwhile event, but lets see, if they can stop the rabbits eating their timing gear and if you don't care about who you are competing against, it still might be?

Gotta say, having a delimited car and finding out what it might be capable of is still very tempting, well without running the risk of getting slammed up anyway.

As Mike said Stevie, I can understand you trailering the car over, you have a much better reason than most. I just enjoyed it the first 2 years when it was actual road cars. At least you knew you had a decent chance. I get off my soap box now...

I think I'd rather take the advice of someone that's done it and avoid. To do otherwise sounds like a triumph of hope over experience.

I've done the past 2 years, and dare say i will go again, hopefully they will not take the carrot flavoured cable this time! Last year was a bit iffy, and i can understand Stevie's frustration after all the effort he put in to get there.

Still not sure of travel arrangements yet. I might end up driving some of the journey...

But as things stand....trailering is the cheapest method....as much as it disgusts me to do it.

But the Mopar Nats is a good event, especially the friday, as the track is very quiet, so its very relaxed racing. TOTB...well, it can be fun. Its just different.
I know I'll never win it....and wouldnt expect to. But its funny annoying and smoking most of the race cars lol. Especially in the top speed events. That amuses me more than any of it biggrin
