Can anyone help with a sample menu and guide prices on this place?

I'm planning something rather special for the OH, and can't decide if i'm going to Champany plus something closer to home, or do something totally different abroad.

I was expecting around £90/head for 3 course plus drinks (wine starting from £25/30ish)? Am i way off here?

And has anyone got any experience of their room for the night? Cost?

It's part of a huge weekend i have planned for the OH and want to budget accordingly.

I have been there a couple of times and can highly recommend it. The food is superb as is the atmosphere. Prices if I recall were about £15/£35 and then £40+ for wine - well worth it though.

I thought their steak started around £50?
Were you in the main restaurant or the Chop House?

Everyone I know who has eaten there loved it.
I used to get a supply of the same pate used there and it was incredible.

Prices for the restaurant are about £35 and up for a steak but then you need to add in the costs for extras like chips, veg, sauce etc. Last time 4 of us went and the bill was about £450, although we did have a bottle of champagne too.

The Chop and Ale house is the more casual eating area and steak and chips is about £25 odds.

Have to say last time I went I wasn't overly impressed. I'd rather go to Livingston's restaurant in Linlithgow.

What was it? Decent pate is very hard to get hold of these days.

Not sure, at the time a couple of family members were chefs so they would make some for family occasions.
In fact some of the food they produced was amongst the best I have ever ate.

Was there two weeks ago and it was excellent. Starters around £15, good steaks £35, good bottles of wine £30-£50. The rice pudding & jam was amazing!

We did stay the night too, around £110 so pretty reasonable. Your budget is spot on.

Ive only been to the chop house and it was the greatest steak Ive ever had the joy of eating. The meal worked out about £40 a head. The menu for the main restaurant though is much more expensive.

P.S Last I heard they dont take bookings for either restaurant and Chips are extra.

For the menu think steak and lobster. That is pretty much it. That said, they do now have a Michelin star, the wine list is superb ( so I am told wink ) and you can even sentence your own lobster to death over a glass of champagne. They keep them in a pool in the restaurant.

Champany and Chop and Ale are two of my favourites. Best steaks I've ever had. Chop and Ale is pretty casual and you cannot book so if going on a Friday or Saturday night you may have to wait up to an hour. Menu there has steaks (which come with delicious chips), fish n chips, lamb, burgers and if you can manage dessert the waffles with ice cream is amazing. main courses are around £19-24. The main restraunt is formal and again there are other choices apart from steak such as lamb and lobster but every time I go I can't see past rib-eye steak. Side dishes ordered seperately. Steaks are around £40ish. Wine list is like a telephone book with some big numbers but their house Cabernet Sauvingon is really good at around £25. Service is spot-on and you can book by phone but needs to be well in advance for weekends.

Rooms are good - old fashioned but quite luxurious and breakfast is another red-meat lovers delight (sorry can't remember prices for rooms)

Thanks all, lots of good info there. I think i'll have to go ahead.

Now, are there any Drophead owners on here fancy making a buck on the side by collecting me and the other half and transporting us back to Glasgow? You can't join us for dinner i'm afraid, and i can't promise the OH will make it worth your while, but i can offer some stimulating conversation and petrol money laugh

You need to edit that last sentence to have any chance of close relations with your OH this side of the next Ice Age.. may I suggest;
