Clutch Pedal & Master Cylinder
Discussion
I've been having problems of no clutch when the engine is hot on my 390SE so I've decided to replace the seals in the master cylinder and slave cylinder.
The 1st problem I've come across is trying to remove the pin that holds the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal. I can't see how to remove it as it looks as if it's been pressed in.
Secondly what's the master cylinder from?
I've also found that the slave cylinder had one of the bolt holes sheared off and was held in with a large washer and it looks like the thread has gone where the other side bolts in so it was moving about a bit. I presume the slave sylinder is Rover Sd1.
Thanks in advance

Usually that pin has a springy clip welded to one end of it. The clip goes over the pushrod and stops the pin from falling out. I have heard of ones that seemed to be more like a big rivet, though. Dunno what to do there - maybe you could unscrew the pushrod or just remove the circlip at the cylinder end that stops it dropping out of the rubber?
Hi, I've just dug out the reciept for my 350's 'Clutch Master' and it was from a TR6
As a side issue, I replaced mine because a seal had dried up over winter... I'd regularly started the car but not moved it..... first use of the clutch and it sprang a leak. Lesson learnt!
If you aren't losing fluid why play with it? You have found your fault.. the slave is loose/damaged. In fixing this you will end up replacing the old fluid anyway, just in case it has taken on too much water (hydroscopic..)
good luck, Mike

Thanks for all the advice.
I've had another look at the way the master cylinder rod is attached to the clutch pedal and they look like rivets so I've decided to just replace the slave cylinder at present and I will look at the master cylinder later in the year as it looks like it has a small leak but I can't be 100% sure as there's not a lot of room to see anything in the footwell.Hopefully if it is leaking slightly it will last another few months.
The Rover SD1 slave cylinder I've just bought has a smaller size hole for the clutch pipe so I've got to try and find a pipe union to fit which is proving difficult at the moment.
