F1 Budget Capping

So it looks as if the 40million figure is not gonna happen, I've seen 120million mentioned.

My thought is this:

What would stop teams contracting out some tasks etc to a different company which has obvious or hidden connections to the race team but operating at a massive loss.

I.e. Ferrari Racing buy engines from F.E.RARI Engine Company for a quid each.

Could they ever really enforce a budget cap of any kind? Wouldnt it just end up as to who could fiddle the expenses the best?

It works for US sports.


People will say that there are ways around it in the US, but the end result is still the same.......all the teams are on a pretty even playing field. That's the way it should be in F1 too.

I just asked this on another thread.

How much of a difference is the budget cap going to make ? I'm sure it must have been mentioned before on another thread. If the cap is only applied to the cars ie not driver salaries, and not marketing, the bigger teams have around 200 million as a budget, looking at their motorhomes etc that need half a dozen trucks and a full time team erecting dismantling and taking the likes of Kimi's 25 mill into account, I wonder how much they are currently spending on the car alone ?

In essence Ferrari already do this, Gestione Sportiva (Scuderia Ferrari) are a seperate business unit held in the same group as Ferrari Spa and as such there is vast scope for Ferrari Spa to pay the development and running costs of a lot of the infrastructure needed to build and run an F1 team, all of which would be legitimate for it's road car business (and sportscars if they ever compete again) for example if Ferrari Spa owned the wind tunnels, then they could choose to charge Gestione Sportiva minnmal amounts to use them....... my guess is that if this route is open to the teams then they will all use it
