Just had lunch from Tesco which included a small sushi selection box. Once opened I was presented with four small pieces and a plastic fish with soy in it (no wasabi).

They looked good until I placed it in my mouth WTF. They taste like ScensoredT, dry chewy rice and one of them had tuna mayo in the middle NEVER AGAIN.

I'm off to wash my mouth out with bleach.

Ergh, don't have the veggie one either, that has cream cheese in the middle frown

M&S is ok though, but for some reason they use smoked salmon, not fresh in my experience.

I pick up some from Waitrose as the OH likes it. Once, just once, I got some Tesco sushi. Her considered opinion was it's hurl

Waitrose concession stall, or waitrose 'own'..

The stall (Moshi) is ok, but terrible selection.
The stuff they deliver via ocado is better, but not ideal.

I've not found a chain store yet that sells 'proper' sushi, i.e. with raw fish. I guess its something to do with shelf life? Although saying that, M&S sell salmon sashimi?

Their own. Moshi has been a disappointment a number of times in a row now. Not bad, but you look at the bill and think it's not worth that...

Me! biggrin

I am however dining at Sapporo Tepanyaki this weekend. So I am sure that will change.

Lol, Sushi snob!

So what's your point?

People eat things - they comment on whether they tasted nice or not.

Who cares that someone hasn't eaten something on the dockside in Wakayama?

Indeed, having worked at Tesco its suprising how long things can be left in a warm enviroment out back when it gets busy with new deliveries.

If they started selling Sushi with raw fish i'd probably be more reluctant to buy it.

Supermarket is an OK introduction to Sushi, had my first proper Sashimi Sushi @ Little Tokyo in Leeds and to those who have never had it fresh - please do the difference is night and day!

Suprising how Wasabi goes up your nose and into your throat, it's powerful stuff.

because there is no other foodstuff in the world where the difference between good and bad is such a gaping chasm

Best Sushi I've had is in Sushi Hiro. Looks like a sex shop from the outside with white opaque glass, but the stuff inside is the best in London.

best i've had is in the basement of an office building with no sign on the outside - the front door to the restaurant looks like this

i don't think they are going for a lot of passing trade

I don't think any supermarkets sell good sushi.

But, Deliverance isn't bad, and Yo! do deliver too, now. You can order online, too. A much better bet if you don't want to make your own.
