I was just replacing the bulkhead bearing by a new one, when I found out, that the "triangular holed" piece of plastic that joints the inner ring of the bearing with the steering column is not sitting tight on this last one.
Is that normal? I hope not, because it is senseless to reduce freeplay by means of replacing the bearing, when this bloody piece of plastic has play on the column. Can I buy this part seperately or do I have to buy the whole assembly?

THanks for any shared experince
Patrick

When I did mine a couple of weeks ago the plastic bit certainly wasn't tight on the steering column and moved up and down fairly freely. However there wasn't too much play in it. I too was a bit concerned but with it all assembled the column doesn't exactly line up with the plastic bit so any play that was there is taken up by this slight misalignment. My bearing was worn to the point that there was plenty of up and down play and after putting the new bearing in it was all eliminated.

Hope this helps,

Mark
