One for Ebay experts.

When I send an email to a buyer through Ebay, they get a 'contact seller' link in the email next to my Ebay userid.

This link shows my Ebay registered email address so they can now email me 'off' Ebay and identify me quite easily.

I've noticed that this option is not present in some emails I receive from sellers.

How can I turn off revealing my email address?

£5 (via PooPal of course) to the first correct reply. I've been all over my options menus and can't find the answer.

there is a bit in account>communication pref. >member to member where you can pick something other than your registered address.

ie, a new ebay only hotmail account...

other info...

Click on your trading partner's user ID anywhere it appears on the site. (Find an eBay member by their ID or email address here.) The member’s Feedback Profile appears.

Near the top of the Feedback Profile, click the Contact Member button.

An email form appears where you can enter your question to your trading partner.

If you want the member to receive your registered email address, clear the “Hide my email address…” check box on the email form

Yes - that would do it.

I think that they must have changed this so that an email address is always shown for buyers and sellers communications.

I'll have to reactivate my John Smith email account.

The other setting 'hide your email address' works for messages to members whom you haven't bought from or sold to.
