Oldest Dragster in Europe ?
Discussion
The Swedish Hot Rod Associations first meeting was in the summer of 1968 at Anderstorp. Flying the flag for the UK were Dennis Priddle and Rex Sluggett in Tudor Rose and Clive Skilton in the Allard Skilton rail. The race report also mentions that "Swedens only rail, Volvo powered, failed to pass the scrutineer."
One of the original Allard Dragoon cars was in the WB a couple of years ago. As far as still competing, Dorset Horn must be close to the oldest in Europe.
One for the trivia buffs: Has John Spuffard ever competed in anything that wasn't a fuel car? I think not...

That is news to me Dan and I am not sure that it is correct...
John made his debut in late July 1984 (made an error earlier) and I was on the start line when he attempted his first pass. If my memory serves me correctly, he popped the blower and immediately side-lined the car. When he got out through the roof hatch I thanked him for his driving and he presented me with a sweaty firesuit cuff to pull so that he could get his torso out from inside it. I swear you could have rung the sweat out of it but this was not fear as John was as cool as ever, but it was an extremely warm day...

I am sure i read it in an interview somewhere regarding someone else who lived near him...i am probably wrong.John made his debut in late July 1984 (made an error earlier) and I was on the start line when he attempted his first pass. Is this the incident then Jim:

That picture is from 1987 and it may well have been (and I got mixed up)... Age does nothing for memory! That is me with the shades on looking towards John, nice view of Brian Ledster's back...
Edited to add: Looks like Allan Bates walking in the right hand lane and as the three of us have jackets on it I would surmise that this is another blower being launched!

Oldest driver in germany is Ronald Jütting,
although he races only Hockenheim annually.
Last year he had the fastest aircooled VW run ever in this country,
with an 7,8 in his turbo "new beetle roadster".
On the next run he split his trans case on the line
and had a spectacular low-speed fire.
I think he is 73 now.

btt :
The slingshot I saw at the weekend has no documented history,
but a Corvette C1 axle and "In & Out Box" (High Gear, clutch only)
could well indicate a 1959 year of origin.

Yes, they know the carb is not correct,
if someone has a Hilborn gasoline injection system collecting dust in the garage somewhere please let me know.
A magneto is on the shopping list as well,
once an engine with enough grunt for wheelspin is implanted.
Chassis also has a straight-tube front axle - like firefly (?),
not the "dropped" style seen commonly.
Regards,
Benni
