After reading this thread..

What do you have to wear to work? Or is it your own clothes?

I have to wear 'Work' trousers, 'work' shoes (loafers), and a Mazda Branded polo shirt.. I think i'd much prefer to wear my own clothes though!

Jeans, T shirt, trainers.

Unless i'm meeting a customer then it's suit and smart shirt.
I used to have to wear a suit every single day - loving not having to anymore

I don't have to wear anything in particular, today I'm wearing brown cat boots, dark blue jeans and an open neck white checked shirt.

In my office of 130 people, about 5 wear suit/tie, 10 wear a tie and the rest wear smart-casual stuff. Nobody wears trainers...

Oddly, the young staff guys on less than 40k tend to be the smartest dressed, I know at least one engineer who's on 800/day and dresses in ripped old jeans, battered shoes and a polo shirt every day laugh

And there's always the few guys who wear the company-branded polo shirts rolleyes

Actually, the (few) women in the office tend to dress pretty smartly.

Work - don't be so vulgar. Surely we're all independently wealthy on PH?

I used to wear a suit, but i knew it was going to be causual when i was interviewed by the sales director who had shorts, flip flops and a t-shirt on.

My smart dress lasted almost a year before i crumbled and started wearing casual attire.

Jeans, shirt, shoes/boots when in the office. Suit when meeting clients.

I employ a fairly relaxed dress code for my staff when in the office, within reason. When they're meeting clients/candidates it's a different matter.

Seems alot wear their own thing really!

I want a job I can wear what I want frown

At the club I work at in the evenings, I started off by wearing black 'work' trousers, 'work' shoes and a black shirt.. Now after getting more into the 'group' I wear a branded shirt, jeans and black trainers.

Shart casual unless something important crops up then I might have to dust the suit off.

Right now, I'm enjoying being 'independently wealthy' wink But, when I was at work, it had to be 'business casual'. What a CROCK that phrase is! Basically, means you have to wear usual office job clobber minus a tie, so why don't they just say 'Ties not mandatory'?!

Just a general question or two really.

Why do people feel the need to wear a suit when doing something important?

Do you ever find that a persons ability/integrity is proportional to their appearance?

Where I work it's the recent graduates who want to look serious and professional that wear suits even though they know eff-all and can't do anything without somebody else holding their hand.

Or the guy in doc control. Or the guy who's first in, last out and makes sure the lights are on/off (delete as appropriate).

Everyone else takes satisfaction from knowing that they are judged in the workplace by the work they produce and the results they achieve. Maybe that's just the company I work for though (the second biggest in the world according to Forbes Global 2000).

I wouldn't choose to work somewhere where a dress code was imposed or somewhere so stuffy and shallow that I would be judged by what I wear in the office.
