Squeaky GAZ Golds - any home solution?

I've had my GAZ golds fitted to my CHIM 500 2 years now & despite covering only a few thousand dry miles they have developed an annoying squeak on one.

Despite soaking all the bushes etc last year with suitable lube its progressively getting worse.

The distributor /fitter is out of business so the hastle of getting them changed isn't an option - question is is there any home fix?

Which part frequently squeaks - the piston rod ? can this be lubricated (which i doubt) or is it more the bushes themselves ?

Its a frequent issue on these pages so' i'd be interested to hear any views solutions...

Speak to Warren (one of the Gaffers) at Gaz: 01268 724585;
he sorted me out. Assuming it's damper internal then it aint a home-fix I'm affraid: a valve disc that used to be pressed from steel is now precision machined (IIRC). Explain your situation; I found them very accommodating. All is quiet and lovely now.

Mine squeaked from Day 2 of fitting, so on Day 4 I wound the settings back down to fully soft, bounced it around a bit, and it didn't squeak.

Wound the settings back up to where I wanted them and not another squeak has been heard in the last 1,500 miles.

may be a very stupid question, but is soft anti-clockwise?

i might try it as well, because the cheap sound drives me nuts. my cars are supposed to make lots of noises except squeeking ;-)

I had the squeek too, so yesterday i softened it by one turn (anticlockwise) and also lowered it by a few turns on the height adjuster....seems okay so far (fingers crossed)

Mine cannot go any lower (see my profile pic) could it be that it is too low?

it scrapes the bottom every now and then (almost always to be honest), but i like the "planted" feel.

Yes it sits quite low - seems i will try adjusting the settings first as they have been static for some time once teh optimum was found - then see how it goes. Cheers all

Mine did that. I found plenty of grease around the mounting eyes went someway to solving the problem. It seems to be quite common though.
