Have never been myself but have heard really good things about the food from friends who are quite fussy about these things. Hotel rooms look good on their website. Depends what you have in mind - and no that does not require a response!!!!

I've not been to the Beaconsfield one but i've been to the one in Stadhampton a couple of times now.

Good place - food great and the wine lists are particularly good fun smile

Only ever eaten in the English restaurant but heard good things about the Thai too.

Their suckling pig dish is something else.

ETA: This will probably be moved to the Food forum in 5, 4, 3, 2....

Ditto, been to the Stadhampton one for a drink.

Also been to the steadhampton one a couple of times. Tried both restaurants, but the Thai food in there is some of the best food I have ever eaten.
The Thai resataurant is down a small stairwell behind the bar in a sort of "boudoir" laugh but makes for a great romantic setting for you and your missus (or mate?!).
(expensive though)

It's opposite my work and we pop in quite a bit.

Bottled beer is £4.80 a pop, bar snack menu is good, the highlight being 3 mini (hand made) burgers, surprisingly plenty for a lunch.

They have just completed the garden area now and in with the recent sunny days it has been the perfect venue for an afternoon *ahem* meeting.

Rooms aren't cheap but they have a 50% off deal until November for rooms Sunday-Thursday...oh and the rooms, well they have to be seen to be believed!

Last thing to mention is the toilets, left of center! - if you've been there you'll know what I mean.

Is this the place still painted in primer? It doesn't even look open. Are they trying too hard to be trendy?

It amazes me that anybody finds it - it's not got any sign saying it's there or what it is. Look in through the open door and it looks as you might* expect a Cairo brothel to look.

  • not been to Cairo nor any brothel for the avoidance of doubt...

Paying for quality is fine, but I find places that quote prices "ex vat" (as with their room rates) a real piss boiler

Fair enough if its trade related but when its something like a hotel/pub/etc it's out of order

The one in Beaconsfield is a Grade II listed building, so they can't put any signs up etc or change the frontage in any way.

I don't see why a sign can't be put up - after all, it was a pub with a sign (The George).

Both The Times and The Telegraph have a review online which is pretty much spot on.
