I've just taken this photo from my office window. Apologies for the crap quality but I used my crappy little work's camera from behind glass:

Note what the kid in the orange t-shirt is doing; a munute ago he was doing it here:

Note the horizontal barrier overhanging the edge - that is a strong steel frame with steel wires, but judging by the width of it, the momentum of falling would probably see you over the side.

All this was happening 9 storeys up above a street in central Manchester. I rang the police as soon as I saw what they were doing but I haven't seen any sign of them. Thankfully the potential Darwin Award candidates have now cleared off.

We used to do that as kids, no fear.

Good thing we lived in the country, as could only fall fairly short distances out of trees.

Send it to the MEN website, they'll devote an entire page to it, complete with interviews with 'shocked' bystanders, and council leaders promising to 'do something'.

Erm... obviously you were there and could see better but from the photos it looks like the chap in red is between the yellow barrier and the fence that the chap in yellow is balancing on. Therefore he's not really near the edge at all. If he fell then at worst he'd fall on the fence.

Or are you saying that he did that again at the location in the second photo? In which case, yes he's not wired up right

You phoned the police? Why? Life isn't always meant to be safe or easy.

Whereabouts is that - is it the multi-storey on Church Street?

I work on Peter Street but just can't place it.

Correct. I first saw him climb up on the barrier in the second photo. I did take a photo but it didn't come out as the lens was playing up due to being dropped off ladders God knows how many times).

Later they were having a go at climbing the 3 metre wall at the back using a lamp postabout a foot away. There is no flat barrier like there is around the lower fence either.

Because they were 9 storeys high above a busy pavement. I didn't want to see him fall as:

  • He would have been killed instantly
  • Anyone he fell on would have been killed instantly

its his head that smashes into the pavement why are you worried?

lets face it even a retard if he starts to lose his ballance he can alter it so he falls the 'right' way. In those pictures I see nothing particulary dangerous at either location, there is even a catch net.

its not like that mad man doing teh pull ups on teh crane in Las Vegas
