Couple of problems on my new Rangie (3.9 Vogue SE Softdash)
Discussion
Hi Folks. New to Rangies and just bought a 3.9 Vogue SE (Softdash) with LPG. Starts bang on from cold, idles about 1500rpm then drops down as would expect. Tootle away and switches onto gas by the end of our road. When it's hot starts fine but instantly races at about 2000rpm although comes down gradually to normal. Have been waiting for revs to stabilise before dropping into D. Runs on petrol when starts and appears to switch onto gas as revs come down. Presumably some sort of sticky idle control? Car has been stood around for some months I think as only done about 150 miles since last M.O.T. That said drove the 85 miles home perfectly. Just put some gas in today and took 36 litres for 125 miles so 15+ to gallon at half the price means 30+ to gallon. Well chuffed with that!!
Tailgate doesn't lock and is tied shut. Someone has messed with it so need to have a look at this soon as car has to live out. Lower tailgate shuts fine and upper appears to be in quite good nick with a bit of surface rust on the inner edges. Not sure how locking mechanism works exactly so any advice would be appreciated!!
I run a couple of other classic cars which my partner and daughter don't like but they love this old Rangie so am in the good books for a few minutes!! Result!!
Many thanks for any advice offered. Regards, Craig.

Tried that with the tailgate and nothing doing! Thanks anyway. Need to have a proper look when got bit of time next week.
Found another problem but fixed that easily. One brakelight was dim and no sidelights etc. Some muppet had put stop/tail bulb wrong way round which was obviously causing problems. Sorted that now and all lights working correctly.
The rear seats do not lock back into the upright position. Latches line up but it looks like they are in the closed position ie as they should be when seat back clipped in place. Have pressed the release buttons to no avail. Was tempted to get my trusty screwdriver out as it looks like the latches might lever back!! Was a bit wary of breaking anyhing though!! Have I missed a trick here or am I overlooking the obvious? Cheers, Craig.

Ah, welcome to the joys of Range Rover Classic ownership! The tailgate can be adjusted. Take the trim off and you'll see a threaded rod and nut arrangement on each side. They are a pain to adjust because adjusting one side alters the other, but it can be done with some patience.

Good luck!

I've had issue with my upper tailgate too - so a few ideas
1 - Make sure the lock barrel is not half depressed because if it is teh thing won't latch
2 - Give the two catches on either end of the tailgate a good shot of WD40
3 - Shut it with a palm over each catch - really hard
4 - Smile with satisfaction - or try again! If it latched before it will latch again - but lack of use is a problem - as is rust and the frames etc rust for Europe!
