With the spec id say £17k to sell, trade wise would depend on the garage but they would probably be offering £14-15k.

LOL. Don't get me wrong... not selling... Love the motor to bits. If I did, it would have to be bad times - or fancy a change! Just curious as to how my investment is doing in the current climate. I would have thought that I would see £20k easily for her in a private sale. Definitely wouldn't consider selling for less than that.

I totally disagree. It is a car. A great car. Cars have always been a passion of mine. But it is also an investment. You don't want to buy a car that plummets in value like a rock, but one that retains its' value. Hence why I have never, and never will buy a new car. Cars, like houses, are investments. Especially when you plough alot of money, time and effort into them.

Kyle, I do hope you have not had a change of heart with the car, which is superb. I hope you weren't disappointed at the Pod, you do have to persevere if you want results, as with everything else.

Just wanted to offer some encouragement really. If you have something you're are unhappy about with the car, why not share it? We might be able to help.

As for it being an investment, it's more about these cars holding value better that anything else, which they will. Other than that, owning a car like this is like giving your Mrs your credit card -they always want more spending on them. Hardly an investment!

I would say if u wanted an investment u should have bought a hk monaro or somethin around them years u could hold on to it for another 60 yrs and maybe it might be an investment but i wouldnt hold my breath as the monaro we no these days dosent really have anything significant about it...(dont want to offend any monaro owners)

I disagree Andy. There are relatively few of them on these shores and interest remains high. It is a modern classic muscle car with presence that turns heads wherever they are seen.

If you have any doubts, they refer to my ute as "the Monaro pick up" at the pod.

Utter tosh. When I bought the Monaro I expected a drop of £700-800 a month. That'd make it the worst investment I've ever made. Clearly that's 2 years ago and worst of it has passed. But only a fool would stick money in a big V8 now and hope to not lose any capital.

I don't think a house is an investment either, but this is a car forum.

and i guess maybe old mate selling the gold gts for 20 grand is well in his rights then as that could be classed as an investment as there arnt too many of them here

yes

Robert Schiller argues that housing theoretically should not increase by more than inflation. If it does its an assett bubble.

Hi Gareth, thanks for the post. To be honest, I haven't had a change of heart with the car yet. Love it to bits. I also think that the community of fellow enthusiasts is a good one - and great to be involved with.

If I did sell her, I probably wouldn't be able to find another car to better her, so the cash would just sit in my bank account - so not looking at selling yet.

I was a tad disappointed with it at the POD, but I am dropping it off at Mark's this weekend to have some money spent on it which will hopefully improve things - collecting her just in time for the event on the 4th!

At present she is running Pedders lowering springs on the original OEM dampers. I think these dampers may have been OK when new, but now seem very spongy these days - like they have "gone off".

Getting her fitted with a full set of Pedders Comfort dampers which should stiffen things up. With the aim of hopefully preventing most of the hopping and tramping that I experienced at the POD at take off. She is also being fully re-mapped from scratch in an effort to improve things on that front and get the best out of her. Full service with all of the right fluids, etc... and an MOT that is due. Was considering going down the Harrop Diff Cover and Poly Bush path, but I wanted to see how she improves with the fresh dampers alone first.

By an "investment", as I put it. I know it is almost always impossible making a "quick buck" on a car. That isn't my point of view - it never has been, this isn't the way I see car ownership - as it has always been my main passion and enthusiasm. Where my money and spare time gets spent.

I have to say though... it may just be luck up to now, but every car that I have ever owned, which there are many of, I have never lost money on them when the time has come to sell - including money spent on them - maintenance, modifications, etc.

I have always at least broken even, if not better - taking fuel out of the equation that is. It's all about buying sensibly to begin with... the right car, at the right time, for the right price - that is my definition of an investment when it comes to cars - cheap motoring, pleasure and enjoyment. Same applies to houses. Hence why I have never and will never buy a brand new car or house - like a rock in a pool.

To me, an investment whether cars or houses - is buying, using and not losing a penny when the time comes to sell. Which I don't think is unrealistic.

Making money on such things is more of a business.

Hence why I saw and still see the Monaro as a great investment.

However, I do like the look and idea of the Dodge RAM SRT 10's - Dodge Viper Engine. LOL.

Same here. Weekend toy for me too, keeping the "general" mileage off of it - and on the Derv Van.
