Hello

I am planning to take the TVR Power decat + remap for my tuscan 4.0 (not S). Standart factory exhaust atm.

1. the 3 main benefits are a slight increase of power, louder sound and more pops/explosions ~3000rpm, right?

2. I am still hesitating in taking the CCC as well, at the same time. Just afraid it might be too loud. Any pro / cons that would help me make the choice?

Thank you

I've recently put my Cats back in and swapped the chip back. IMO the CCC's give a better pop and bang on overrun than decat and decat + CCC's is just too loud. That's my own opinion, others may think differently

In terms of performance increase I think it's negligible, maybe a few BHP. The only benefit as far as I know is that the cats get very hot and this can effect the paint on the chassis and they add weight so by removing them you save a little weight, probably cheaper to get down the gym and lose a stone wink

interesting feedback, thank you!

mmmm, that s an alternative I didn't think about: leaving cat, no remap but put CCCs..... mmmm

any other experiences?

You should get CCC's or sleeve your standard cans first. Then if you want it louder de-cat it.

I did that, then also decatted for more noise, to save my cats and eliminate the issue of cats breaking up, also the slight performance increase.

On my RR engine with standard bore exhaust, from inside the car with CCC's and decatted I don't find it too loud at all.

BUT I was stood 10 metres behind my car a couple of days ago when someone gave it a couple of big revs with a hot engine and I was shocked at how loud it was!

Another benefit of decatting is saving your cats, as they tend to burn out quickly and the engine can digest bits of broken cat.

Thanks a lot. I am sorry to ask those very newbie question, but I am still one after all, and english is not my mother toungue... :S

1. how does CCC cans look like? I love my "carbon" looking current default exhausts. Do they look the same?

2. I dont quite understand what you mean by "sleeve your standard cans" (sorry), can you please explain?

thanks again

bcadou,

I will be taking my Tuscan to the Ace Cafe (London) on the 22nd July for the Middlesex TVR Car Club meet. I have sleeved my standard cans and also de-catted. Tested last weekend at 115db, you are welcome to come along and have a look.

This is not always the case.

As you can see from the Dyno graphs below the power and torque increases can be huge when decat pipes and a bespoke remapped chip are installed. The remapping was done by John Ravenscroft and this map now forms the basis of the TVR Power chip.

The Decat pipes on my car were designed and built by errrrrrr......me smile

Blue line is with cats in and original map, red line is with NTEL decat pipes and bespoke remap. Car now uses less fuel and passes the MOT without having to put the cats back in.

I can vouch for Macey. Followed him for a few miles round some lanes near me and his decat and sleeved Tuscan is fcensoredg loud! I'm happy with my CCC's but then again I'm not as much of a hooligan as Macey wink

Exhausts dont have to be too loud. I used to run my car with CCC's until they disintegrated and fell off, it wasn't a nice noise anyway. I then made my own cans using a straight through inner 2.5" pipe clad in ceramic, housed in a 4" tube. Now that was loud, 130dba @ 6000rpm yikes . Now I have made some more cans with just 4" of perforated pipe in the bore which make a nice noise.

I would recommend to anybody to just sleeve their existing original cans, but not all the way. Only insert the sleeves 2/3 or 3/4 the way down. It'll make a nice noise without all that rasp.

To sleeve your standard cans means that a stainless steel tube 30mm diameter is inserted inside your cans.
Normally a short weld is done to make sure it cant fall out.
I just had mine done last week. I think the tubes were about 280mm long.
The tubes were so tight we didnt bother with a weld.
There has been a little increase in sound but she still is no where near as load as my Mk1 Tuscan was.
I was told that it will get louder over the next few weeks with use and I can say that this is the case.
I dont get much in the way of pops and bangs, again unlike my Mk1 but I've got her in for her first service since I bought her and so hopefully this will improve with the setting up.

how about we try to record all the different combinations and upload them to be able to compare the "beauty" of the sounds?

I am happy to try and record the sound of the default configuration: CAT, no remap, standard exhaust

That sounds like a great idea. (I am away until the 19th July so cant do anything until then though.)

You can hear the difference between standard and de-catted/CCC's here...

The standard Tuscan starts its run @ 6:50, the modded one (mine wink) straight afterwards @ 8:00.

In my experience:

Standard factory cans (new): a bit too quiet, few pops and bangs
Cheapest CCC cans (£220 at the time): just the right volume level, lots of pops and bangs
Above cans, but 20k miles late: a little bit too loud sometimes (maybe I'm getting old), or maybe they are getting louder with age.

Go for CCC's first, then decat after that if it is the noise you want.

Sorry to be a bit pedantic, but its 50.8mm OD (2") that is used. I'm sure it was a typo but just wanted to clarify smile

Neill, does that fella stuff his finger in is ear???
Its loud mate, but I think mines louder, Ha
While traveling down local high street the other day and not giving it the biggun (roof off of course) you tend to notice people move away from the kerb when your coasting and popping, banging.
To be honest a bit to loud with no cats and ccc's, will put a set of cats back in when m.o.t is due, shame its not for another year, Doh!
Since the cats were removed I did a 400 mile M25/M4 and M5 round trip last weekend and the noise in the cabin is not so bad, I know this coz the wife was in the car and she'd be the first to complain but is is loud out the back

Yes, sorry.
We actually ordered 52 then realised our mistake and found some 50.

Sleeved my can's today with 51mm wide and 400mm long stainless steel pipe, the pop's and bang's are back on the overrun at 3k but still sound slightly muted compared to CCC's, by some miracle the standard can's came off after shearing both clamp bolt's, not sure whether to go the decat route or buy new CCC's, am off to find a decent tunnel for further evaluation... confuseddriving
