how do i remove an air lock from the thermostat?
Discussion
I take it you mean bleed the cooling system.
Park the car on level ground, ideally with the front raised slightly. eg the front wheels parked on a scaffolding plank.
1. With the engine warm, not hot, Undo the Expansion cap.
2. In theory you don't need to this bit, but I always find it works for me, so you can skip to step 3. Undo the bolt on the drivers side of the radiator - if coolant starts leaking from it, retighten it, otherwise remove it, and fill the radiator until it is full, then put the bolt back and tighten it.
Under each airbox you'll see a horrid looking butterfly nut on each water rail, these are the bleed nipples.
3. Loosen the driver side one, if coolant starts leaking, tighten it back up again. If no coolant leaks, then top up the expansion tank with coolant until it does start to leak -ie the air has been forced out - then tighten it.
4. Now repeat for the passenger side.
