Due to changes in my job I am now spending 1 or 2 nights every other week in South Wales, I usually stay in hotels around Cradiff / Newport. But I have been thinking there must be some hotels around some decent off road / trails / etc in and around that area.

Can anyone recommend some decent off road riding that have decent hotels close by, the plan would be to spend the day at meetings then do a bit of riding late afternoon then hit the bar for a few beers and some dinner - then back to meetings the next day!

Where do I start?!

Jn32 Village Hotel and do the area round Castell Coch and Caerphilly Mtn.

Have a look at Cwmcarn on web.

Further west there's Afan Argoed and Glyncorrwg - some of the very best trail centres.

That's for starters.

It may be worth talking to Mojo Suspension Hoodoo in Newport. They are all riders and from my experience really keen to help on anything MTB related.

There contact details are here.

Jon

Edited to add that Cwm Carn is awesome and a lot of the guys from this forum ride there and occasionally meet up for a PH day.

Thanks, are any of the routes around Castell Coch on the internet that is somewhere I have always wanted to ride

I had been told about Cwmcarn but was concerned about 75% of it being uphill!!! It is a work day after all!!!

Edited to change my terrible Welsh spelling (My English is bad enough!!)

Colin fron Rush Cyles does Castell Coch quite a bit. http://www.rushcycles.co.uk/

His forum might give you some trail ideas.

Try MTB-Wales.com

Lots of Cardiff based riders with night rides orginised fairly reguarly.
Lots of good riding from North Cardiff. The nearer the A470 you are, the closer to the riding you will be.

MBWales will help there too.

CC isn't that bad, it's a technical climb more than a grind climb and it's a 50/50 split between up and down.

Cwm Carn! Great place and that final downhill on the cross country trail is pretty epic. There's also an uplift service and a downhill course (rollable though - I think you can take it fairly gently if needs be).
