Petrol tank leaking - float / pump bolt threads knackered

I have a small leak on my petrol tank 
Basically, I've had the sender unit and pump out the tank a few times and I've stripped the thread inside the tank which one of the 12 or so bolts bite into when you screw it all back together.
Picky of what I'm on about here:
Anyways, is anyone aware how I could repair this? As a temporary measure, I tried some silicon sealent but the petrol eats straight through it.
I thought of replacing the offending bolt with a self tapper so the threads bite and cut into the tank, but I fear that petrol will then leak from the self tapper as the original bolts have a slieve around them to prevent this.
Any ideas please guys? Its only a very small leak but it stinks of petrol and I'm worried about petrol dripping onto a hot exhaust!

re-thead bolt hole to slightly larger size (get the tap kits from screwfix/halfrauds etc) fit new bolt to suit re-threded hole? cost about £10 for a cheap tap set

Thanks Andy, this was my plan longer term. I filled her up today and if I tap a new hole tomorrow, fishing bits of swarf out of a full tank of fuel does not sound much fun!
