As above really guys.

Stereo is in an SL500, would you leave it in the car or change for a modern CD player?

I would leave it in. They are excellent quality, even old ones.

How old is it? Worth anything from £100 to £1,500.

I'm in a similiar boat.

I've got a Becker Avus in mine, with a wooden look front, to match the centre console.

The problem is that there's no CD - so been toying with replacing with a modern CD unit, with a wooden look front. Do you think I can find one? I used to have a Kenwood Mask unit which would have been fine - but they don't seem to do them anymore frown

It is in a 1990 W129.

I believe it was fitted from new.

Worth about £250.

Better than anything you can buy today. If you must replace it, try a new Becker. They look right. Be aware that it probably has separate amplification.

Is there any way of adding a CD player?

It may be possible to add a CD Changer but it may be too early. I'll have a look when I get a chance. I can appreciate you dilemma: a tape player is pretty useless but it is an original and high quality piece of kit.

I'm in exactly the same boat (with a '95 Becker Avus) - so any help gratefully received smile

Do you have the original stereo manual? Are there any 'CD' references in it? There is in mine, where the stereo can be used as a CD head unit. But the part number it quotes draws a blank on Google frown

Paolo and Lord K,

Try these guys a try www.raysmith.co.uk

I use them a lot and will be able to at least let you know if it's possible to connect an autochanger.

Have you thought about hard wiring a line in for ipod and the such?
