have a 56 plate vxr and was looking to do the air box mod mentioned a while back ie cutting another hole, however, mine has a pipe coming from the box that seems to be drawing air which is fixed to the plastic radiator cover panel under the bonnet, it looks to me that when the bonnet shuts it covers the hole somewhat! a bit daft to me.
would cutting this pipe off closer to the air box help? i assume then that another hole can be cut next to it and may be use a bit of the off cut pipe to finish it off? any thoughts / ideas would be appreciated.

I have the same setup, see my post at the end of this thread for how I did mine.

It's a water drain for the airbox by the sounds of it.

Drilling holes in airboxes generally only serves to allow hot engine bay air into the motor... People in the Volvo world like to turn theirs into swiss cheese in the crazed belief this will create more power. Usually the biggest restriction in getting air into the engine is the size of the MAF after the airbox. If you do need more airflow then a stock airbox and filter will deliver, at least make sure your solution is getting cold high-pressure air fed from somewhere near the nose of the car.

That top hole is a cool air inlet. It should not be cut off completely when you close the bonnet. Before you go hacking your airbox, just take the top off and the filter out and check what's there. Mine is a 2005 (6.0L) and there is an extra hole cut out down the bottom which draws cool(er) air in from the front wheel well area. I know this from when I went to do this mod' and thought -Why bother?

Many thanks for all your prev threads / thoughts and advice, as always, greatly appreciated. I'm at the stage now where i think the airbox mod is more hassle than what's is worth and am now leaning more to just changing the stock filter for a better performance one. The only one i can find for a 2006 Monaro VXR 6.0 is on the K&N website but it's for the American Pontiac GTO, K&N Number 33-2314, does anyone know for a fact that this fits, ie, has brought one themself or know of another make that fit's? Does the Fish do anything that fit's?

You can get a drop-in K&N panel filter, or I believe the K&N induction kits with the cone filter do fit from the US. Wortec also do one with a large cone and heat shield box but its not cheap.

Or there's the OTR options (or lack of them really) depending on your inclination.

I'd call either Monkfish or Rapid, as I believe they both have them as items in stock smile
