They are great cars and there are good ones out there but not at 8 - 10k. Those are that price for a reason, a good auto will be half as much again.

You can find them at that price. But usually the 66k to 70k milers are at that price - check that they have had the chain replaced

The chains should be replaced at 64k ish and that alone is a £2k job. Its been said eleventy million times before, they may be getting cheaper to buy but the service and parts aren't. Many have and will continue to be bought with the 'Yeah, I've got a masser' attitude', run for a year or two without being touched and sold on with all the costs waiting just around the corner for the next owner. If your the one doing the selling and your conscience can live with it, then fine, buyer beware and all that, if your the one doing the buying you had better have a very good slush fund or you will have bought a driveway ornament.

If you cant afford more, you cant afford a Maserati. Buying the car is the cheap bit.

Not True.
Trade prices are at this level and less now.
You have to know what to look out for.
Like any car there are good and bad examples.
Also there are owners out there who are unrealistic on the price that they seek for the 3200.

but hes not buying at trade prices is he? Typically private sellers are asking £1-2k below forecourt prices which are £13k +.
If you know of a good 3200 with a warranty on the forecourt with a good history at £8k I'd buy 3 or 4 of them just as spares!

This is well documented on here and other forums and any buyer 'should' do his homework or deserves to get his fingers burned.

It's theirs do to as they will with, I could advertise mine for £50k if I so desired, but I wouldn't expect it to sell. Any possesion has the market value set by buyers and the emotional value set by sellers, if the two end up the same after negotiation then the deal is done.
I wouldn't belittle a seller for asking to much Id just carry on looking.

Visit www.maseratiforum.co.uk for more help and advice. The general rule, is be prepared for high running costs, and if it's not, then you won't loose the smile driving one gives.

Yes, I agree...when I was seriously looking, I could have bought several at that price with less than 60,000 miles. But equally there was a ton of junk at that price with 90k on the clock too...

What's interesting from what you say, it appears that the trade prices haven't started to turn on 3200s as they seem to have done with most other prestige metal....

The cars available in the trade are usually ones that need plenty of prep, a really nice car needing no work isnt a difficult car to sell, and tends not to get traded.......granted there are the odd decent one, but there seems to be more of the former. If some one has a lovely GT for £8K I am a buyer smile

Matt, unlikely to find one for £8k now - they have moved up in price - I missed that French Blue car - it went for £9500....the only cars at £8k have been nigh on 100k miles...

Its the mechanical side of it which drives the prices of poor examples down due to the knowledge of parts and sevicing costs, by comparison the cosmetics are pocket money. If it has a good history and the owner had all the work done which the service agent advised them of it won't be a sub £10k car.
I dont want to put you off, quite the contrary, but you need to keep your eyes wide open and be ready for eye watering costs if you end up with a pup.

Pinpointed the actual moment in history when the price of 3200's turned upwards.

As somebody has already said, if you are not prepared for surprises then Maserati 3200 ownership is not for you.
Mine is fairly low mileage, has a faultless full Maranello service history prior to me buying it, and Lancaster thereafter. Within a period of 6 months the starting motor, exhaust back boxes and throttle body all failed, and then a turbo broke loose, I was £3500 lighter by the time these little dramas were sorted, and believe me mine is a very good example on a not particularly high mileage.

If you cannot handle big bills, I'd recommend you don't buy one, they are cheap to buy, but very expensive to keep on the road.
