Going away to France for the weekend in the next few months and I'm busy trying to sort out the insurance for the trip.

I've got the thumbs up to borrow an MX5 to make the trip even more fun.

The insurance is proving to be a bit of a bugger though. As I'm 20 and not 21, most short term insurance companies won't touch me. I have, though, managed to find a method to get me covered - but I have just found out it's only for the UK and doesn't cover France.

As said, the usual short-term companies refuse to know me as I'm under 21, and I haven't got the spare dosh to take out a fully-fledged policy and then cancel it after the trip (deposits up-front etc).

Does anybody have any ideas or sneaky knowledge as to how I could get myself covered for this trip? It's ridiculously difficult but if there's some way I can make it happen then I want to give it a go - it just wouldn't be the same in the family Vectra... hehe

I don't know how to help get the insurance - but my advice is to not 'chance it'. The French plod are methodical at requesting paperwork at the roadside, and you'll end up in all sorts of bother if you are caught without.

Good luck thumbup

Take the Vectra you will appreciate the extra space. That way you will get more than one change of clothes and some room to bring stuff back.

I suggest the owner of the car puts you on their policy for 1 month, which should already cover driving in the EU.

Wouldnt risk it if you cant get insurance for it, like said French police are methodical with there work, and the Gerndarmarie will tae you to a cash machine if you cant pay on the spot fines, and definatly take the bigger car

This is the way to go. Speak to the owner, and ask him to get a quote from his existing insurance company smile HTH
