The oil pressure gauge in my 06 monaro developed a mind of it's own 1 week after i bought the car, which i was told in a previous thread isn't unheard of, so i took it back to slaters in colwyn bay who supplied it.
The technician who came to look at it seemed like a nice enough bloke, although he did worry me by mumbling about fuel consumption and suggested i should have bought a diesel, which i thought odd as he looked quite normal.
Anyway, i offered my opinion that the fault probably lay with either the sender or the gauge itself, although i'm not sure how welcome this opinion was but, armed with this wonderful insight he disappeared into the workshop with the car for about an hour.
His opinion after attaching the car to something i think he described as a "tech 2", was that the fault was "probably" the sender. He decided that it was worth investing the £117+vat to find out for sure, said he'd order the part right away and give me a ring when it arrived.
That was last monday and i haven't heard a peep, so my questions are, should i be chasing them on a daily basis? Should i not chase them as this is likely to upset them and result in my dropping down the priority list? Do Vauxhall dealers have a reputation of being Good, bad or indifferent with the monaro? Is this part likely to have to be shipped from oz? How long will that take? Should i have bought a diesel? Forget that last question, i'll walk first.

In case it helps - you shouldn't have bought a diesel.

Well they couldnt tell me exactly when my part was coming in but said "10 days".
Though I suspect that was a best guess than a definate. We will see.
Id call them back and ask for a specific date though.

PS: No you should have got a diesel, but you should get a cam wink

The electrics on the Monaro have a will of their own.
Last week when I started mine up and the fuel gauge went to ¾ of a tank, strange I thought it was on ½ yesterday, after about 2 miles I got a low fuel warning and the gauge dropped to empty.
Filled it up at the next garage and exactly the same happened again this continued until I disconnected the battery and reconnect it, and all is working properly again?????

If they are ordering parts through the dealer network.....it could be more than ten days unless its in stock in the UK.

Thanks for the replies, i'm glad everyone is agreed i shouldn't have bought a diesel, means i'm in the right place.
All things considered i think i'll give slaters a ring in the morning to see if they can give me a eta, i've got a week off work from next friday and i've persuaded my good lady that instead of lying in the sun for a week we should thrash around the peak district in the monaro.
Although the lack of an oil pressure gauge won't stop us, it would be nice to have it working.

If it happened 1 week after buying the car then it must be covered by some warranty?

My experiene of Slaters is not a bad one one - I think I know the guy you mention - but they do have this penchant for 'it's the sender unit'! My cooling fans are on all the time from 5 mins after start up & I've tried everything from relay & battery disconnect/reconnect...falut still there...Slaters said...'it's the sender unit & a new one is 170 quid incl labour!' That was a year ago.

Think I'll ask the fishy guys when I go next!

Whereabouts are you then if you use Slaters!

I had the same oil pressure gauge with mine a good while back now, engine was fine, just a faulty sender unit

Just rang Slaters, apparrently the sender has arrived and i was booked in for last Friday, they just forgot to tell me!
So now it's booked in for the coming Friday, fingers crossed it cures the problem.

Paul, Yes the car is covered under the network Q warranty so for 12 months i don't have to worry about the repair cost. I use Slaters in Colwyn bay because that's who i bought the car from, but i live in Rhuddlan just outside Rhyl anyway so they are also quite close. Before i bought the car i'd been looking for one for a while, it was just a lucky coincidence that this one came up locally and appeared to be just what i wanted for what seemed to be a good price.

Hi Mel, nice to know that there are a few V8 fanatics in this bit of N Wales. I'm a bit scared that there's another slightly nutty blond woman running around here though, my good lady falls into that catogory too and strangely, has developed a previously undiscovered love of the V8.
Somehow i've allowed myself to be persuaded that it's better for her to take the monaro to work and i drive her fiesta, as this arrangement saves 50 miles a day going on the monaro.
I hate it when women use logic.
Anyway, i shall keep an eye out for you, i missed your Rhuddlan drive by earlier as i was in work, but i'll be about when she lets me have the keys back.

Yeah, there's quite a few of us V8 nutters in these parts. If you see a woman who looks like 'Olive' from 'On The Busses' driving a Yellow 'ro, well, it's my car with the wife behind the wheel just begging to get her first speeding ticket.

We go up Rhyl/Rhuddlan/Prestatyn way quite a bit. Will keep an eye out for you. Yet to see Mel locally although, she spotted me in Llandudno once and my son in the back of the car said there's a blonde woman waving her arms around and pointing at us in an excited fashion.

The GM tool kit has an adaptor to measure oil pressure at the filter housing so it should be obvious if there's a sender issue. Maybe vauxhall don't have the kit, let alone spare sender's lol. Then you have to wait for the part, it's pathetic or rather vauxhall are.

Another dumb question for you guys - where is the oil pressure sensor.

Is MAP (an anagram for Manifold Absolute Pressure) = oil pressure sensor.
And therefore is it the sensor at back of engine on the valley between the two heads

MAP (an anagram for Manifold Absolute Pressure) = YES

Oil pressure sensor and MAP sensor are at the rear of the block like you say. Oil sensor is screwed into the block and stands vertical. MAP is fitted into the plenum.

I'm pretty sure we've seen you once or twice, on your way into the B&Q car park?
The second time we were walking to the pub, just about to step off the kerb at the sainsburys roundabout and you came past. Had you looked in your mirror you would have seen me doing the excited schoolboy thing of pointing and shouting "MONARO"
