Maybe I'm missing something. I just don't get the 'burnout' thing. If I witnessed someone stop a car on a nice little straight and then floor it, leaving perhaps a couple of black lines as it hooned off into the distance; the engine noise and acceleration could impress me. But a stationary car in a cloud of smoke? It's coz I'm 42 isn't it?

My experiences:
Arriving at the circuit in the early hours in a fully loaded 4wd having just driven hundreds of miles, only to have a load of pi55ed up idiots smear their sticky paws over your bonnet and demand you "give it some" then have them give you abuse when you try to explain that you'd just shag the clutch if you even tried.........
You find yourself on the Mulsanne and decide to enter into the spirit of the thing, some self appointed individual counts you down and as he does so about a hundred drunk, sunstroked 'car lovers' edge into the road, each holding their camera phones aloft and jostling ever forward to get a better shot until you're faced with a line of pedestrians covering half the road expecting you to drive straight at them whilst trusting them to get out of the way, then you spot the Gendarme waiting to give you a ticket so decide not to bother......cue more abuse from the car lovers.........
Arnage village Sunday evening, Bentley have just won, some chaps old enough to be my Grandad park up their Arnage T in the middle of the road, put Land of Hope and Glory on the stereo, everyone sings and they dissappear into the distance in a cloud of tyresmoke with a bare septogenarian arse hanging out the window......
There's a time and a place for everything, Le Mans would appear to be the place but I guess timing is subjective.

Well done, thought you summed it up rather well Arriving at the circuit in the early hours in a fully loaded 4wd having just driven hundreds of miles, only to have a load of pi55ed up idiots smear their sticky paws over your bonnet and demand you "give it some" then have them give you abuse when you try to explain that you'd just shag the clutch if you even tried.........

I'm not b
hing and I'm not particularly dull. I've had my fair share of fun at LeMans over the years, so much so that I virtually died there in 2006 in my Hayabusa powered 356 Speedster replica. An example of when things can go real bad! It won't stop me going back and having a mad time. We all know the risks. I'm not complaining about the burnouts I simply don't get it.
DJFish did sum it up well.
