Good morning all,

On this Sunday my gearbox let go for the second time in 2 years and I am on the lookout for a replacement if anybody knows of a decent local scrappy or gearbox specialist ? Car is a mk4 golf gti engine code AUM on a 2001.

Cheers
Henry

If the earlier replaced box was from VW then it should have a 2 year parts warranty?

Not so lucky it was free from a friend and I knew the history so took that into account, but from grumbling to buggered was a lot shorter than last time.

We used CarGears in Woodley to diagnose and repair the wife's Alfa.

If you're getting through gearboxes as quickly as this then maybe you need your box 'beefed up' a bit.
If so, you could send your fubared one to http://www.gearboxman.co.uk/ who can rebuild it and beef it up for you at the same time. Possibly a little more expensive but will make it smoother, give you better reliability and allow you to put more power through it

Cheers for the replies. Currently I am looking at getting it back on the road and sold, I am not heavy on gearboxes just a weak design by VW the second gear box was from a friend as an interim solution and it had a hard life prior to going in my car.
