283mm Front Disc

Just spoken to a helpful chap regarding a set of Sierra Cosworth RWD 283mm 4x108 PCD front discs.

Has anyone used these this as part of a front disc upgrade on their Griff?

Yes, but I believe there are better upgrades than the heavy iron Cosworth calipers.

How about 324mm discs and Brembo (Focus RS) aluminium calipers?

Haven't got onto the calipers yet..however it's good to know the discs fit.

We have a large selection of family sized 6/8 cylinder (1200-1800kg) Ford cars here..so they are my target for donor calipers. however thanks for the tip..

Obviously don't forget you will need bigger rims to go round those.

Just thinking that I should bring a demo set of the adaptor brackets I had made for the Focus RS calipers to the Growl... See you there.

Yes, we have them on our Griff.

It's about as large as you can go under standard 15s.

I have just purchased a set of Brembo Focus Rs calipers and trying to design a bracket, if you have already done this, what does it look like, what material and thickness is it. I won't be at the Growl so won't be able to see yours.

Mine are made from 1/2" steel, but aluminium could easily be used.

Did you also have to remove a little bit of the caliper so that it would fit?.

You could have a set of mine. I think I have a 3rd set somewhere... (It was easier to get a big batch made)

Yes, I had to run a file over the back face of the caliper, but only about as far as removing the paint.

I got a kit from Hans who is available through pistonheads. 283mm discs turned down to 280 with new calipers. No spacers/off-set brackets just a complete swap.

Price was very reasonable and I'm very impressed with performance and price - for road use they are excellent.

I know everyone tries to out-do each other with number of pistons and disc diameter but I found the whole swap quick, easy, and just what I wanted for the road.
