I have a problem with my new 400SE, it runs fine when it is cold(maybe a bit down on power)but once it is warm it will not accelerate properly, it splutters and hesitates above about 2k rpm.
I noticed that a previous owner has fitted an alloy swirl pot in the fuel system with no pre-filter before the pump, I am wondering could it be a fuel supply problem made worse when under bonnet temps are high or am I on completely the wrong track?
Thanks
Robert.

The engine temperature sensor sounds like the most likely starting point, and whatever you do, don't get an Intermotor one. They are about 12 quid.

Make sure you do put a filter before your pump. I've had swirl pot rust break mine. I put in a glass sided filter and sure enough you could see some rust accumulate in it.

I have been trying to find a local supplier of engine temp sensors and they only seem to have Intermotor ones, could you please let me know which makes should I be looking for and where can I get them?
Thanks
Robert.

Range Rover dealers do have the right one. That is where I bought two, as even the new ones can be 'not working' right out of the box! Both are fine so have a spare now...

Thanks, I will try the Range Rover dealer in Perth, I tried the dealer in Aberdeen but the parts guy did not even know that they dealt with Rover V8s. (he did sound about 12)

Also have the timing properly checked.

My 400 had the same symptoms when I first bought it.

Timing was way out, and distributor loose. Everything else was working fine.

Correcting the timing fixed it. smile
