TVR + lotus wedges
Discussion
Excuse me for butting into your forum. Just wanted to say how nice it was to see a Lotus esprit owner wave and pop the headlights a few weeks ago (Nr Welyn). I was in my'89 TVR 350i and did the same
I thought it was great that 2 British built wedge shape cars should acknowledge each other like that!
Top chap.

At the time I bought my 1st esprit ( 86 S3 ), 3 mates had just bought/or where about to buy a 350SE, a 350i and a 400SE, so I had to buy an Esprit just so I did not have a TVR !!

I share the comments which remind me a sad moment of this year. Coming back from the bakkery a sunday morning around 8, I saw a TVR spinning and hardly hitting the central barrier on the freeway at the exit of a tunnel. I stopped to find the driver just stoned but conscious but also the passager was unconscious (breathing with a slow pulse). While I send the driver at the exit of the tunnel to prevent another car to hit us. I was waiting for the ambulance which came rapidly. The woman had recover her mind during that time and my physical exam reveal no fracture. Finally two others TVR's stopped to see what happend (They were going to an event). Finally, they both recover very well. The same is not true for the car (I guess), it was in bad shape with the trunk and the boot lying on the speedway and a "fold" in the chassis at the rear right side. Glasses were broken and right side scratched all along. I dont know why the car suddendly startted to spin, the road was a little wet as in the morning after a septembre night. Just a sad tour with my Esprit on that sunday.
TVR owners were very kind with me.

I always liked TVRs wedge shaped car. But then I like all their efforts even though I don' buy them. TVR have a lot of class and build always true to a classic roadster theme. Their cars stand out and even though people complain of the reliability (typical of all small producers, even Lotus a few years ago), I think they are a great brand.

I think you will find it was me on the Welwyn to Welwyn Garden City by pass, on my way to work i do like the lines of the TVR next best thing if the Esprit hadn't been invented.

I'm pretty sure that there was indeed a design link between the Esprit and 350i. Couldn't comment on who the person was but back then Lotus sold very few cars so probably wouldn't have worried too much about it. The esprit itself has always seemed to have more than a little in common with the BMW M1!
It must be time someone adopted the wedge again now that the egg-shaped TT theme has been flogged to death. BMW strayed in that direction with the hand built Z1 but then gave the world the Z3!
