Route sufggestions/advice around the wandsworth roundabout
Discussion
Cycling my girlfriend into work while she gets more confident on londons road, and part of the route is from putney to wandsworth and on up through to spencer park area (next to Trinity road)in wandsworth
We have done it twice so far, and come out halfway on the one way system on Armoury way, but as we need to eventually go round to the right on the system, it means crossing 4 lanes of traffic - now you try and convince someone who is new to cycling in london that this is safe!!
So ive been looking at taking the back roads through to the wandsworth roundabout, and seeing what the trinity road underpass does for us, but finding absolutely zero information on the web other than it being the scene of the opening part of Clockwork Orange... Just trying to find out in advance, that if you were travelling through the underpass to trinity road, where does it actually bring you out to? And therefore where does it drop it you. I guess im just trying to find out if this will be a better alternative than fighting 4 lanes of traffic
Sorry for the rambling post, but any help really appreciated!

Hmm.
If she's nervy, I'd suggest this: approach the one way on the downhill, but stop and get off at the lights that turn you left into the one way system. Cross over and walk the bike on the pavement carrying on dead ahead (ie against the one way flow) along W'worth High Str.
Remount at Garrett Lane, and ride up that til the left at Alfarthing Lane. Follow that to Heathfield Road and then Windmill Road; follow that to Spencer Park.
Coming back is a lot easier, as she can just ride from Spencer park to, and then along, Wandsworth High Street.
The roundabout is not a good place for a bike. I ride it sometimes on a road bike. It's always a lot easier if you get green lights all the way round, and try to keep pace with the cars. Sort of not ideal for a nervy beginner.

Have you tried looking on the TFL website?
In the transport planner section, if you pick cycling as the only transport method, then put in your start and finish postcodes, it will plan you a route from door to door with maps of the whole itinerary, all along quiet roads or cycle paths as far as possible.
I used it to plan a commute from Epsom to Hammersmith a few years ago, and it was absolutely brilliant.

if so then I'd avoid the roundabout completely where possible,
which part of putney are you coming from, ie do you come along river ?
My route (for speed & enjoyment & least hassle&traffic) would be..
follow putney bridge road along river through park
when you reach wand one way system go along past majestic wine but instead of heading for roundabout, go straight on along old york road and turn right at alma pub.
You then have 2 mins of uphill (but you have to go uphill at some point anyhow)
when you reach easthill cross road and turn left, wide pavement there, go straight & you are in the park & can just head straight to spencer park.
Its nearly all park bar the small bit in middle on wand 1 way system but can use pavement there (there may actually be a river path but I havent been down there for a while)
