Just read a few reviews of the Bronson movie starring Tom Hardy and they didn't fill me with confidence. Has anyone seen it? And is it worth buying?

Very odd film with some bizarre scenes in which he is some sort of circus performer telling his life story.

Would I buy it a definite NO!

Is it worth a watch well that depends on you. I am glad I watched it though.

It keeps on cutting between him narrating his life to actual scenes from significant parts of his life, but he tries to be a circus performer and it is all a bit strange.

I just think it's incredible that he does 1000 press ups a day, he used to anyway, keep on taking hostages which means he has served 30 odd years inside now.

He's a cousin of a mate. He once did a marathon of sit-ups whist catching a medicine ball and throwing it back to a prison guard for what he believed would be a Guinness World Record only to be told afterwards that it was too specialised to go the book. I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to tell him.

I watched it whilst flying over to the US a few weeks ago. Too disjointed and overall just a strange 'non event' of a film. Maybe rent it if you want to have a look but not worth buying........

Quick update. Just watched it on blue ray, qualities not good enough to warrant that to begin with. The movie itself was ok but just seemed to far fetched. Didn't understand the need to narrate to the audience through it. And i think the 'based on a true story' suits the movie, i've read there are some parts that are added or gloryfied (Not sure if that is really a proper word). Could have been much better IMHO, didn't need to be as strange.

I take it you are American (repeated use of the word 'Movie').
He is quite well known in the UK and is a complete lunatic so it might be true.

No i'm English. Just used the word movie instead of film confused
I've known of him for a while and i quite like Tom Hardy's style of acting. I have read a little about Bronson from time to time. There it mentioned the movie and said some details such as when he left the mental institution and went to the brothel or whatever it was were not accurate. But i suppose you cannot get full details from a prisoner so just basing things on books he's written and articles in newspapers over the years.

I don't always call them movies sometimes films, didn't really think that it was an English/American thing to be honest. We have FilmFour but then we have Sky Movies. Never heard of that said before.

Bought this over the weekend.

Definately agree with Scottman, despite some great acting from Tom Hardy this film is a complete non-event. As soon as it finished I listed it on play trade as there is no way I will ever watch it again.

The way its put together is awful, but like said the acting is superb, depicting the loon that Mr Bronson is, and the way he plays the character is superb, worth a watch just for the acting, wouldn't buy it, or pay money to watch it, its not bad, but not awful, they have tried to copy Chopper, and set it in the uk.

Whilst the circus style narrating and acting itself was good, I think it would of worked better if they did it like Chopper which iirc was him just sat in his cell telling the story

No it isn't.
You are a strange question if you think it is normal to use Americanisms in everyday speech.

It's not an American word though. I'm still baffled, thought this had died down also hehe Movie is in the English dictionary wink merely an alternative word for film. Anyway............

oxford concise dictionary said:
movie

• noun chiefly N. Amer. a cinema film.

Just because something is in the dictionary it doesn't mean it is not an Amercanism. SOmething gets into the dictionary due to common use and for some reason our teenagers think it is clever to adopt American words hence thier entry.

Perhaps it was brought in before my time then, loads of people i know alternate between the two words. And sky use the word in their channels. Anyway it's getting a bit far off topic. To summarise(summarize wink) you thought i was American but i'm British judge
