Okay, bit of a predicament. This is more of an appeal to those in the know, basically, we have a neighbour, that over the last few years, has increased the size of his aerial attached to his house. Its now got to the point where we think, its effecting the TV signal and Internet signal we have. The other neighbours think like wise.

With the power of PH at my finger tips, i thought theres no better place to start.

Their aerial currently stands at around the 20ft level above there roof. Its shapped like a lobsided 'H', and over the last few years has got bigger and bigger. Also they have a sky dish, the few other houses in the area have sky dishes north facing, his faces his stupidly big aerial (i dont know if this is a factor or not)

some pics........

Okay the pics arent the best.

Anyway, what legally can i do about this? do i need to prove this is affecting my TV and Internet signal, (i cant even watch that Scottish lad play Tennis) or does my neighbour have every right to decorate his Large Bungalow with rugby posts for roof decorations?

Thanks in advance for any tips on where to take this!!

I thought this was going to be about the big hash plant in the near field. Must wear my glasses more often.

Job done.

Suspect he is a radio ham. Not quite sure what you can do about it really. The amount of energy coming off if he is transmitting will be pretty substantial. Have you approached him?

planning law .

Not permitted development if , and this is just a few of the conditions ,it is ...............

a single antenna exceeding 1m in length

an antenna sited on a chimney exceeding 600mm

If the aantenna is mounted on the house it must not be higher than the highest point of the house

basically , they need to apply for planning approval for what I see in the pics you posted

OK as a radio ham myself could you describe the interference you have on your TV? Is it your sat reception or tv itself or both.

Wireless internet should not be affected but the telephone line can(though I think he is broadcasting microwave there). This can be easily sorted with a couple of ferrite rings and your TV interference could actually be a weakness in your own set up eg poor antenna connection etc.

TV interference will not be constant,(however I think he is trans tv or other data on microwave which tends to be constant) just when he transmits and the interference is usally cross hatching on the screen. So if you have poor reception all the time it isn't your neighbour. Unless you think its the sat getting problems.

Have a word with the guy as he will most likely try and fix the problem and you might just find your TV pic shall improve if there is indeed a problem.

ETA

If your Sky dish is North facing then it's no wonder you have tv reception problems laugh Sky dish will be pointing south at 28.2 degrees East of true South.

Had a closer look there, ok set up he has. All gear looks good and should be in good non interference working order.

HOWEVER the antenna in the second pic on the far right looks like an ATV microwave set up probably around 1ghz. It would be low output but could interfer with LNBs or he could be close to wireless internet. He could be transmitting TV pictures so a lenthy broadcast time.

Go and have a chat ASAP. Give him a chance to sort the problem. If he doesn't then complain it's your right to do so.

His aerials are much bigger than that.

Sky dishes point South wink If the telephone/ADSL is affected you could try fitting a BT 80B RF3.
