Currently a LAMP developer, and have been quite MySQL heavy in recent roles. I've used it for the last ten years across multiple jobs. I'm totally bored of web development and want to move away from it; become more of a DBA.
It seems like there are quite a few Oracle jobs out there, in some interesting industries.
Sadly, I've got no commercial experience with it, although I am well versed in database theory and the practicalities of being a DBA. What's a good route into that sector? Is it worth getting training in it? Is any of the MySQL experience valid for Oracle?

Big ramge of products and lots of dbas out there. Certification used to be quite expensive, although cheaper if done somewhere in the far east/asia.
It is a big complex product and I think you have no chance of getting an oracle dba job without experience.
All the oracle development products/applications stuff is going to be very differnt to mysql.
I would try and get a development gig using your existing skills but on an oracle platform.
Meanwhile pop along to technet and download the stuff and have a play.

More jobs per DBA than MySQL ? as that's a pretty crowded market! Probably current climate doesn't help.
I just don't see many junior positions which you'd expect to see, but I guess a natural progression for PHP/MySQL is to start PHP then move to MySQL, and a similar step doesn't really exist for PHP/Oracle
