I have a 323i 1982 e21 model with an m20 engine. The head is out of an e30 323i aka the "731" head. This head have better Volumetric Efficiency via larger intake ports. The block is old and nasty, I just replaced a core/freeze plug a few days ago which had gone out on me on the freeway. I get a constant vacuum reading of 14psi which leads me to believe that my piston rings are shot. The K-jet fuel injection system is in order and I get the same ping even if I overenrichen the base mixture. I am running colder spark plugs, Autolite 64s and Im considering running autolite 63s,,,,,(autolite 66 is stock for this car, the other two are progressively colder)

I have a ping, pink, pre-ignition problem that just wont go away!!!

Ive changed from a distributor(the *********006 distributor) which has this advance curve:

Basic setting 22 at 1500 Rpms
Control 1 11-17 at 1000 RPMS
Control 2 22 at 1500 Rpms
Control 3 27-33 at 2400 Rpms
Control 4 26-32 at 4000 Rpms

To a distributor which "Supposedly" has this advance curve( the ****040 distributor):

Basic setting 16/5000
Control 1 9-16/1500
Control 2 12/19/2000
Control 3 15-21/3000

To no avail, for some reason, even if I set the base advance to TDC, I still get a max advance of 30 or so degrees. The car pings at anything over a max advance of 21 degrees.

Could the vacuum canister be over-advancing due to the low vacuum pressure?

Please help!!!
