Lowered floor pan?

I have a question for you taller guys out there...

I have already ordered, and it may be too late to worry about this now, but being 6'3", I am wondering if I should pursue getting the lowered floorpan in my GTR. One, of course, for my height, and two, to accomodate a wider variety of seats. I have read in a few places that seat height can be an issue. I am looking at a Corbeau A4 seat which has a height (minus the mounting rails) of 36.5" and a width of 18.5". The width is the same as the Ultima supplied seat, but unsure of height. Anyone gone with a lowered pan? Any changes in the build due to the lowered pan?

I think you need to be careful using non-factory seat (although others have done successfully). The Ultima supplied seats get your backside pretty low using runners, other seats may well raise you a bit. Also Ultima seats have backrake optimised for the car. Don't know about the lowered floor pan, but hope it isn't lowered too much! Mind you I am fortunate in being a 5ft 10in dwarf and therefore fit easily in standard setup.

I am trying to do my research up front for sure. The Corbeau A4's seat back is adjustable, so I think that will help. To your point, I am more concerned about the mounting rails pushing the seat too high. I like the factory seats, but at almost 2 grand, this is one of those places I feel I can cut a little cost.

I'd go for the lowered pan if I were you - I'm 6' 5" and am a snug fit in my GTR, I suspect I wouldn't fit with the standard floorpan. As it is my knees are very close to the dash and I've lagged the roll cage tubing before I put a dent in it

I have sent Ted an email asking if my chassis is already too far along to get the lowered floorpan. He will be using my name in vain I am sure! BTW, Bob, do you know off-hand how much the pan is lowered?

I have the lowered floorpan and find it quite a bit different from the standard. The lowered floorpan makes it awkward to adjust the seat to it's most forward position as the runner release lever catches on the normal floor but you would not have that problem if the seat was to the back (I'm only 5'8") and most people don’t swap drivers regularly so once set they aren't usually changed.
The lowered pan gives more clearance between the knees and the steering wheel. I find the lowered position better for reading the Stax dash as I can see all the instruments clearly through the wheel whereas in the flat floorpan I lose sight of the top of the revcounter. I was under the impression that the lowered floorpan was more the norm now and I'm sure unless it was physically built that the factory would be happy to amend your order.

AFAIK the lowered floor pan is standard these days. You have to ask to get a flat floor.

one thing I would suggest for all new buyers is to sit in a GTR with a crash helmet on! That will tell you about the floor needing to be lower or not. Its not until the first track day that some people suddenly realise they need to have their neck removed to fit!

I have a spyder so have a spare 96 million miles head room.

Any of you retro-fitted a lowered floor pan? I could do with the extra room. Perhaps someone could tell me the depth of the pan which protudes on the underside?

I ordered a GTR before the lowered floor pan was standard. It wasn't even mentioned to me , despite apparently being a no cost option.

I can't fit into my GTR with a helmet on. Wishing I had a lowered floor pan

One of the few things about the GTR experience that still gets my goat

...except at night, with the moon. Then, it's a mere 240k miles, or so. Good suggestion about the helmet! I hope to be ordering soon!!!

Clive, Was this a factory supplied conversion? I'd like to know more about the materials/dimensions etc you used.

I have a load of photo's of how I did it if you want them. Just email me.
But basicaly I cut a hole in each side of the floor pan 1" from the sides and the front and 2" from the back. Then dropped in a 2mm Galvinised dropped pan I had made. The pan had 1/2" returns on it which left me with enough room to weld the new pan to the old floor. Then just panel sealer and stone chipped painted the underneath. Simple realy....

But make the sides vertical and the only slope the front and back, otherwise you won't get the seat in the right place.

According to their website the Ultima seats are 724.00GBP or 798.00GBP + VAT per pair which is a lot less than 2 grand and represents good value for money, especially when trimmed in leather (the more expensive option).

As far as the seats go I bought some bare shells, and it still cost me over £500 to trim them professionaly. So the factory seats are good value after all. Oh well next I buy the factory seats....
