Cheeky stats request
Discussion
I'm writing a small piece on how server downtime for a "normal" site is less important than for a "social media" site, which could be getting as many as x posts per minute, so a few minutes outage means a lot of lost posts.
ETA: obviously it's not too hard to work out, simply add up the number of posts at 20:00 tonight, do the same tomorrow, divide. Just looking for a shortcut rather than an "official" statement really. Not even worried about naming the reference site, although it would be nice to.

Well for all those with the What's New and Show all Forums selected can see what figures we pull in per minute... Looking at last half hour it is averaging 7 posts per minute.
Though on the theme of your paper I am always bemused by companies saying they have 99.9% uptime as that means for every 1000 hours they have a 1 hour outage which seems quite a lot (though probably less than PH
)

got to love those stats.We had a messaging vendor that stated that a message being corrupted or delayed was a one in a million chance. 'So, we can expect that 30 times a day then?' I retorted. That shut him up.

I am debating the difference between 99.9 and 99.99, which is what we are being both asked for and sold, and brings the "downtime" to 36 minutes per year. Which is somewhere between "tough" and "impossible" IMHO and is more of an internet connection availability benchmark than a "social media site uptime" reality.
