Here's a link to Broadbean747s posting. http://tinyurl.com/6psugh Which is the best write up of early V8 Jags.
The Nikasil issue shouldn't be so much of a problem now so long as you get the car tested. The high sulphur fuel which caused the problem was banned in 2000, so the theory is any car which is still OK on it's original engine should be better than a steal linered car.
The same can not be said for timing tensioners. There are independent specialist that can do these much more reasonably than a main dealer.

I suggest you check the following, we have experienced several vehicles that have suffered the following corrosion.Check the support gusset under the front N/S and O/S front foot wells for rot, also the reinforcing gusset which runs the length of the transmission tunnel/ floor pan. It rusts through the floor around the spot welds . At the rear of the car behind the rear wheels the box section support corrodes through on either the inside the arch or outside behind the wheel.
On the front suspension, check for rust appearing around the top wishbone bushes. They are very simular to the old slipflex bushes ,I have had these seize and break the wishbone arm ! Double check with the dealer the chassis number corresponds with the vehicle! basic stuff I know but I have had ringers in here, clients have been shocked to find out after the event.I had a1997 FHC where I suspected an issue with non specific sealer/ spot welds around the underside, a HPI check revealed it was written off some 5 years previous ( catD) . I removed the seats to reveal evidence of a good cut and shut.
Front axle mounts are also a failure point . These can only be checked on a 2 post lift, by placing a transmission jack on the underside of the front beam and watching the rubber part company from the alloy mounting plate.
Hope this helps
