E46 hard top preparation - retrofittable?

Wonder if you clever chaps can answer a question I have.
Hard top preparation on an E46 convertible is listed as an extra, and appears to consist of a couple of extra pieces of kit fitted to the car (I found an exploded diagram on t'interweb showing me what they were, but I've lost it now).
Can the hard top preparation be retrofitted? If so, anyone have an idea of cost?
