Yesterday after a 20 mile run with the air con on I parked up and left the car for 10 mins or so.

On returning I started the car and with the car ticking over on my drive - smoke/fumes filled the car (not sure it was electrical smoke or a clutch lining type smell, it was foul) and the air con stopped working...

I had to drive for an hour or so and I tried the air con a few times (rather hopefully as it was showing 32 on the outside temp).

I then parked the car up for an hour or son and on returning the air con works again, however I could hear quite a rattle under the bonnet before it kicked in.

Any thoughts - I was thinking air con pump clutch/engaging mechanism but I am only guessing.

Thanks in advance for any replies
