So, since leaving school I've always been employed. From the usual YTS stuff, day release college, the usual malarkey. Ten years at a successful software house, then went out on my own IT contracting in August 2006. That contract was meant to end at the end of December 2006, but fortunately it was extended several times until my final day yesterday.

I'm bored.

I'm going to take a few days or so go get my head together before I start really pounding the agencies for some work. Any other PH'ers out of work at the moment after a long time in? What are you doing to fill your days?

I'm going to go the gym now, then study for an exam I have tomorrow. So that's today and tomorrow done. Friday is my leaving do, so that's Friday and the weekend ruined hehe

How are other PH'ers in the same situation finding things? The strangest thing for me is waking up, thinking I have to go into work and sort a certain problem out, then remembering I don't. Weird.

I have a PS3 & Fallout 3. Believe me, the temptation to sit down there all day playing that is enormous, but i'm trying to be productive! Besides, I'll be playing tonight whilst Mrs Arese is out. thumbup

Since you're an IT contractor, any ideas about IT projects you could develop yourself while you're not in contract? I've got a piece of development that I'm designing and building outside my 20hrs/wk contract.

Of course, it's much more tempting to go for a blat/watch Wimbledon and even if I avoid that I've got my running training to do and upkeep on the house and garden. No problem filling my days.

Was out of work for 2 months earlier this year, but I was 'between jobs' as I'd lined something else up when my contract ended, it just wasn't due to start for another 2 months.

With no job-hunting to do, I revelled in my role as an unemployed slob, playing Xbox for hours on end and just generally being very fking lazy.

I would recommend it. thumbup

since being made redundant I'vedone/going to do;

- gone to le mans
- gone to glasto
- sort out my garden (new paths and boundaries)
- go rock climbing
- do a few track days

only problem is I've got an interview lined up next week and I might get the job which will scupper my plans

work just gets in the way of life wink

I reckon if I lost my job, say at the "meeting" I've been invited to in an hours time, and it took me 6 months to find one, It'd simply mean that I'd only have 99 projects left to get on with by the time I got back to work. About the only thing work does for me is interrupts the huge piles of things I want to be doing.

That's not a bad idea. I've got a few things I could be doing. I've also got a few friends who have some get-rich-quick plans that they want me to help with, but until now I've not had the time. This time next year...eh?

As for the other recommendations, no comment on cracking one off, but the PS3 controller is now in my hand. First things first.
