I had a quick search but didn't see anything - so apologies if this has been covered before.

We've had a GranTurismo since new (Dec 07) and the tyre wear on the fronts is very uneven. The inside shoulder/edge develops a groove very early on and wears through to the canvas very quickly. Tracking is the obvious point although this has been checked a couple of times and it's fine. It looks almost as though it could be rubbing on something although nothing can be seen on the ramp, even accounting for if the wheels didn't have the drop.

The dealer says they all do this, however when there is stil l4-5mm of tread left and the shoulder is down to the canvas, I just can't agree.

Anyone else have a similar issue?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your car needs it's geometry doing. Not sure what the difference is between geometry and tracking. My car had similar symptoms and I am having that done at the moment.

I'd suggest getting a 4 wheel alignment done on the car. I have heard of these scrubbing out the inner fronts as it's naturally setup with negative camber. The wheel alignment will also show up the toe settings as too much toe out will accelerate inner wear.

You're running loads of negative camber >-2.5 degrees.(the tops of the wheels are leaning in towards the car looking top down). It's great for trackdays as it gives you a larger contact patch as you corner - more grip. If you're not doing trackdays you don't need so much. Get the negative camber reduced. This will also make the car less pointy on the roads - may or may not be a good thing depending on your driving style.

its the way the cars set up. the car leans on the edge of its tyres very much so. If you lock it completly you et a scraping or scutling...all of them are like that apparently according to HR Owen

Thanks for all the replies. I'd thought about a full geo but they're quite pricey at Ferrari main dealers and it's been like it since new so couldn't see how it would help unless it was out.

However if they're all like that why hasn't there been a recall to rectify it? Where do you think we stand with regards to getting compensation for prematurely unevenly worn tyres? (all 8 of them, and 20in P-Zeros aren't cheap...)

Have any other GT owners on here had the same? We stand a good chance of a goodwill gesture from the factory in numbers in past experience.

Thanks again,

Jon

Now that you mention it, HR Owen offered me tyre insurance when i picked up my GT which i thought was a bit strange. Better check my tyres tonight although i've only just done under 4000 miles

Geo's at Ferrari/Porsche etc main dealers are a complete waste of time, I've heard horror stories.
Give Chris Franklin at Center Gravity a call, probably the best in the country, and will charge you around £250 for a full setup. My last geo/ride height/corner weighting there took 14 hours! A simple geo would take maybe 3-4 hours ,but your car will be transformed and will save you a packet on tyres if you just go for a 'neutral' setup. He's based in Coventry.

4 Wheel alignments are only as good as the individual's that use them.!!.
Talk to the individuals about your requirements.. Tyre choice, damper settings, track use etc.

A good geometry can transform a car's feel.

It would be interesting to find out about this. If you lock complete right or complete left does it scrape skip or scuttle when you move off still locked?
Also I found just at the bottom of the door on either side a v shape bit of leather got tore. This also occured in another car I was in, I could never work out why?
