+1

If you have not watched it, you have not seen Das Boot.

It is kind of like Band of Brothers was compressed into something the length of Saving Private Ryan. It would be just five battle scenes. Still great, but you lose out on all of the back stories and the development of the characters.

With the lights off and a tap running in the background for effect.

If you have a light with a red bulb in it you gain extra points.

You need to leave the tap dripping...

Great film. I bought the 'extended' version for my grandad one Christmas, without even realising that he chased the boat around the mediterranean in a destroyer and contacted the author of the book after the war.

IIRC the U-boat was used again in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

A true epic and an absolute classic. So many war movies show the enemy as faceless, soulless automatons, this really shows the other side of the coin.

I'm always interested by the gulf between the old, often aristocratic, German officers and the new, manaical Hitler-obsessed generation.

Tried the dubbed to english version once and it was not right. So for me it has to be the subtitled in english, speaking in german.

And yes, it is the long one.

And getting an airlock in the central heating system can provide an authentic ASDIC like ping effect when the destroyers are hunting the sub smile
