Hi,
One of these days I might be able to give something back to the forum rather than just take, need a bit more experience but getting there.
Anyway the car is progressing and with anyluck it will be back on the road in the next two weeks after being laid up for 9 years.
Got the suspension and drive back together, got the engine running and she moved under her own power ... did I have a grin or wot...

Right, back to the thread ... does anyone know the origin of the wiper stalk in a '85 series one 350i, my one snapped.

Also a recommened wheel refurbisher in south essex.

Thanks,
BBT.

Rover SD1 if the stalk is long and thin, Ford Granda Mk3 if short and stubby.

Thanks for the replies ... its long and skinner with a bend in the middle.

I shall try and source rover SD1.

Does any one have experience where to get one of these.

Thanks,

BBT.

I thought that the wiper stalk was SD1 but when I bought a NOS stalk it didn't fit. The stalk was quite a bit longer than the original (probably due to the SD1's larger steering wheel.) I think the stalk for the early wedge comes from a TR7 but I'm not certain. (I glued mine back on in the end with Araldite!)

Get in touch with Rimmer Brothers (search on the web) and either give them the part no. or measurements. They stock SD1 and TR7 so will sort you out.

Well Rimmer were looking good, just to make sure they requested I took the arm assembly off to compare and make sure.

The part we thought it was (3039) had the wrong number of pins in the plug. The only plugs they had were 6 or 7 pin, mine has five.

I shall email them the picture below as the guy I spoke to on friday was pretty helpful. They person I spoke to today slightly less.

To make matters worse it self destructed whilst handling it ... spring and contacts all over the table.

Regards,
BBT.

The extra pins may be due to the SD1 having intermittent wipe (which my wedge does not) The wedge stalk has a facility to push down on the stalk to give a single wipe to clear the screen ( again not connected on my wedge!)From memory, the SD1 stalk stays down when you push it which would have probably activated the intermittent. Hope this helps and i haven't led you on another wild goose chaseredface

I received an SD1 catalogue this morning and looking at the larger picture of the Rimmer switch it does have a different plug. Time to buy and learn where all the wires go for a plug swap. Just make sure your battery is loosely connected so that you can unplug quickly when the wires start smoking.

It's a good site for bits and I have just bought a pair of SD1 seatbelts No idea if they will be the right size but for £8.63 not a big loss. I know they have been sitting in the warm and moist in India for 20 years as opposed to the existing ones which have been in the cold and damp for 28.

In India they'd have no idea what the belts were for...suggestions on a postcard. wink

Maybe a harness for one of these:
