Just wondering who you peeps are insuring with recently. Been with Hagerty since 2006, renewal gone up 25%!!yikes I thought it was supposed to get cheaper the older you got. Me 43, garaged car, agreed value, limited to 4000ml yr, GU post code. Been getting similar on gocompare etc. Its gonna be the best part of £2k this month with 12k service/mot insurance. Put the kids on gruel for a couple of months they will understand.laugh

Is it on a classic policy? I've been doing some calling around, and if you can get it on one you'll be much better off - most even cover TVR club trackdays too!

Phoned Hagerty a week or so ago, they explained that they had a lot of (presumably expensive) claims last year on TVRs, hence why there is no new business for the under 30s on them, and hiking their renewals trying to get the policies off their books.

Yep, was bound to happen, cars getting cheaper, falling into the hands of the less 'experienced' driver and hey presto you've got a recipe for an accident and, as with all things TVR, and accompanying large bill!

There's been quite a few, 'How do I get insurance, I'm only 22?' type threads on general TVR, they don't all know how to handle a car like Mike. biggrin

Let's not forget the usual number of 'The back just stepped out.' threads that we get over the winter.

In it's most basic form, lets say 4 Cerb's get written off at a cost of £12.5K each, that's a liability of £50K (let's forget scrappage value etc), if we say the average insurance policy is £400, then you need at least 125 policies just to cover 4 written off cars. That's a very, very basic scenario I know, but it does make you think, and begin to understand why prices go up.

So, in short - don't bang it and we won't all have to pay for it!

Tried to get a quote from Haggertys this year but they couldnt quote as I didnt want to restrict my mileage to under 5k pa.

Renewed with Mannings, moving from unrestricted to a 7.5k pa restriction and the premium fell by about £100 to £360 with unlimted track day cover.

40 something debonaire beefcake with car garaged.

My renewals with Mannings later this month...3k limited miles £343 - thirty something, garaged with full no claims and protected.

This gets my goat a little. Not all young drivers are poor drivers...admittedly the majority are, but not all.

And your point is? I think, the fact that you've said that the majority are poor drivers, says it all. There must be reams and reams of statistics and analysis of 'bad risk' profiles, it's just that the young are a bad risk - I know I bl**dy was, fearless and the best driver in the world at 17! I could make my 1500 Dolomite outrun Porsche if I pushed hard enough. wink I don't think I was never bad driver but I was fast - EVERYWHERE, so by default I'm guessing I was bad/dangerous!

Direct Line £487.
Priv are coming in at £400.
I have sold my merc and so the cerb will be my only car (I live away during the week so dont need a car) albeit I hope to be able to use my wifes Disco.
So far looks like a normal insurer is best.

Just renewed with Haggerty, £325 classic car insurance incl recovery etc. Limited to 5K a year. But I reckon a good deal. I got recovered from Portsmouth last year to Mid Wales due to a coolent hose splitting. Old fart now but no history of accidents.
edited to add, garaged, no points etc.

Deffo the Red Rose bit then that makes my premium higher.
And possibly because my car isn't 10 yrs old (ie not classic status).

Sticking with Priv. CAlled them to add my wife, to move no claims onto car from merc, to protect no claims and to confirm that the car is a Red Rose. HAd to explain what Red Rose meant and that it was not a mod but a factory option that allowed the car to run on higher octane fuel etc.... So all noted and covered etc.....

How's this for daft as well....

Saw this thread and need insurance for my old Rover got a quote on confused and the cheapest quotes are thus:

TP only £380
TPFT £277
FC (no excess) £405
FC (£500 excess on a £250 car;) )£312

So they want the risk of it catching Fire and it being Stolen???? Where is the sense in that?

It's all just made up numbers imho.
