PH, odd things are afoot.

After posting new posts I seem to come back into the Pie and Piston and something very strange seems to be hapening to the CSS - as in it seems to have lost its formatting

Did it just happen on the one page or was it stuck like that for a while?

PistonHeads > Gassing Station > General Gassing > General Gassing is correct (but admittedly confusing)

The first "General Gassing" is the forum group, the second one is the specific forum "General Gassing".

It makes much more sense when you are in any other forum, for example when you are in the news forum it will read "PistonHeads » Gassing Station » The Pie & Piston » News, Politics & Economics" and clicking on "The Pie & Piston" will take you to the forum group page showing all the topics from the P&P sub-forums.
