A van pulled across a roundabout in front of a kid on a bike. The kid went right into the side of the van. The front wheel folded up and smacked a large dent into the side of the van, the poor kid is wobbly as hell and the arse in the van was trying to get him to admit responsibility!!!

There was an incident near here a couple of weeks ago. I didn't see it, just read in the local news.

Makes my blood boil. Another reminder of why a helmet is so important.

Same thing happened to me last Thursday, driver went into me. One very bent bike, amazing amount of damage. Cyle helmet saved me from much worse concussion, had a v bad headache for 3 days!. Gloves also saved my hands, but still very generally battered and bruised. Before I poo poo'ed all the safety gear to tell you the truth, not now.

Buy the best you can afford and wear it

So the cyclist was on the roundabout and the van driver pulled onto the roundabout in front of the cyclist, yes?

A fine example of what I feel is the driving standard of the 'average' driver. Terrible.

Just had a conversation with PC Rob. Seems the van driver turned up at the house and "checked up on the kid". The politely told them it wasn't his fault and they would have to claim for the bike "on household". On the strength of what I told the police they are considering a charge of dangerous driving...

Sounds more like the van driver doesn't have any insurance too.

Van driver sounds like a wker from what's been said. They'll be saying that driving is vital to their livelyhood next too. Shame they can't drive with that in mind in the first place!!

Absolutely right. Why do so many people turn up in court saying "my lively-hood depends on me holding onto my license" when caught for an offence. If their license was so important they'd be driving more carefully in the first place.

Oh, and well done Gooby, I hope he gets what he deserves. I'm both a cyclist and a driver and have some shocking incidents on the road in my time.

I would like to correct what I said last night.
Because I am a strong witness and saw the whole incident, the evidence is good enough to consider a charge of dangerous driving.

It kinda felt like what I said last night implied I exagerated the truth....

I took some photos of the side of the van after the accident, you can clearly see the dent where the bike hit and even worse the dent where the kids head hit.

Get those lids on guys. They really are not optional.

Nice one Gooby - good to see someone these days prepared to stand up and be counted! Feel for the kid though - similar happened to me as a kid 20-something years back. Rep in a 7-series pulled infront of me when he was waiting to turn right.

My bike hit the front wheel and I slid over his bonnet. Wrote the bike off and the chap bought me a much better racer out of his own pocket rather than go through the insurance!

Glad it didnt turn out horrid.
I often use a roundabout in Baslow near to me. Often when I turn right and signalling and am well into the roundabout cars coming straight over nearly knock me off, somehow they seem to think I am at fault! Idiots !

I honestly think that even if a kid was to run into my stty work van (if I had one) and it was his fault that I'd almost take part blame in pure guilt that I was the unlucky bloke that he ran into.

Seems like it's the default position these days, immediately get out and start berating the other party......in this case, a kid on a pushbike. How big of him...

Well done for following it through Kyle....let us know the outcome at the hearing!

Agree with that. Some one drove into my parked car in a car park - and I saw them - they got out and the first thing they said was that it was my fault.

I think insurance companies are at least in part to blame for that sort of mentality with their "never admit liability" advice.

Well you can do that without automatically saying 'It's your fault'.
