Battery - Not the Normal Question
Discussion
I need to change the battery on the cerb, there are lots of threads on here about which one.... so i can look through those.
Just wondered how to get the old one out!?? I tried before, just so i could get to the -ve terminal to charge, but then ended up using the air filter casing arm, so didn't need to get to it. There are all sorts of cables etc in the way, so just couldn't budge it! Is this a 2 min job & i'm just missing a trick??

Hi Al,
remove the windscreen cover panel, disconnect the washer tubes, remove the n/s air box and there will be clamp at the bottom of the battery holding it in place - undo it and you are there - oh and take off the battery leads - remember to take the fob out of the car before you reconnect it or it will set the alarm wind up the windows and lock you out

I'll give this a try. You make it sound so simple.... remove the windscreen cover panel, disconnect the washer tubes, remove the n/s air box and there will be clamp at the bottom of the battery holding it in place - undo it and you are there - oh and take off the battery leads - remember to take the fob out of the car before you reconnect it or it will set the alarm wind up the windows and lock you out
Thanks
I hope you have better luck finding a replacement than I did !
I tried National Tyre & Autocare (the last place I got a battery for the Cerb), and they now can't get the "old style" 072, and couldn't find anything that would fit !
I then tried Euro Car parts - same story
I then tried Half-wits - same story, but with me doing all the searching !
As a last resort I went to a tiny "old skool" car parts shop (can't think of the right name) & within 5mins we'd found something !
I'm now running a Pavilion Heavy Duty D078. Still 590CA, but only 60Ah (rather than 70Ah for an 072). The plus side is that it's smaller than an 072 (shorter & not as long), so fits the recess much easier, and gives the battery a bit more room to breathe (including being about an inch further away from the manifolds). I had to make a new (longer) bracket, but that only took 5mins.....
Apparently a lot of American imports run the 078, so I'm fairly confident it should stand the distance.
So thumbs up to "Beaver Batteries" of Ashford.
(Yes really.....

)[/And there was me thinking choosing a battery would be the simple part!! As a matter of interest, whats the life of a battery in a cerb? I know the discharging/re-charging thing does them no good what so ever, i have no garage, just a front drive, so after not driving for a week or two, this one needs a charge up, i think a year of this has knackered it. It now last a couple of days & needs a zap! quote]

There are tons of threads on this. Optima red top fits easily.
Hence the original question..... Was more concerned with getting the old one out! Shame battery is not easier to get to though..... I read a thread before where somone talked about relocating it to boot, wonder if they did it??? Good to have a few opinions on the battery as well.

Ive seen 072,s in Halfrauds Catford only last week. About £120.
Yep seen them in my local one as well, replaced mine 2 years ago for £86.99 + loads of
had to use two large screwdrivers as levers to get it Eddie Waring style 'Up 'n' Over' the fixing bracket....then once done
+
Wasn't as easy as I first thought but then it is a TVR
I went for the red top (search the net), delivered next day, fitted by the garage in about 15 minutes (I could have done it myself having seen them do it!!)
Huge improvement in spinning power and never struggled with the "will she, won't she" start after being left not plugged in for a few days.
A bit more dosh, but not a lot more and definitely worth it in my view.
Its a cerb, spoil it!!
Cheers
Rob

... Nothing wrong with being able to afford to pay someone else to do it... Helps keep the car industry going and all that..! R

If you do source a battery from Halfords, keep the receipt in your car history, as they come with a 4 or 5 year warranty. A Cerb will probably munch its way through the battery in this time, especially if you don't use a trickle charger. So when it does you'll be able to dig out the receipt and get a free replacement.
Slightly off topic - but related ...
When I purchased my car, the previous owner supplied me with a trickle charger. Very handy I thought having read a bit about the battery issues on here while "lurking" .. Now there is nothing wrong with my battery, but when I have decided I won't be using the car for a while, I have plugged in the trickle Charger (and read the instructions)
However, it always starts to discharge my battery straight away - red light (which is why I read the instructions
) - so I remove it again, afraid that when I return to the car, it may be worse than when I left it...
Anyone offer any comments regards the use of trickle chargers - is this "normal"
