Folks,

Looking about at a lot of different cars at the moment and the Nobles are really catchign my eye. Ive searched a few threads etc but cant find 1 on the front splitter - how bad are they for scraping?! For bumps in the road at speed, kerbs when parking front on, speed bumps, multi storey car parks etc?

I have had 2 cars now (Supra and Impreza STI8) and both had low front splitters - they can be annoying if they keep gettign cracked etc!

Responses appreciated and also any advice re buying! thinking mid to high £20k's as budget.

Mine does not scrape anywhere near as much as my old exige did, I believe the M400's do not have a splitter and I think some people have removed theirs off the 3 and 3R

Mine scraps like a scrapy thing. When I reverse off my drive it scraps. I was in Southport at the weekend and it scrapped on a road where there was a dip - caused quite a few heads to turn.

Yes they do.
Mine got so bad that I took it off and made up some smaller ones that only cover the corners. These are made of tough black plastic 5-6mm thick sheeting.
They are sacrificial as they hit first and protect the front clam. They take an hour to make a pair. Look pretty good too. Also because they have no over hang, they do not hit as much as the original.

I also have a pair of corner splitters, yes they do catch BUT not that bad, depends on where you end up going i guess, since fitting mine i have caught them twice (in about 500 miles, i know it needs to be out more) since xmas. Mine wasnt GTO-3 wasnt fitted with a splitter when i got it tho.

M400s were not usually supplied with a front splitter.
I have not found speed humps etc to be an issue at all, in fact it's a lot better than our other car - r32 skyline which does need you to be careful over speed humps.

They do a bit but not as badly as many cars.

The thing yuo need to watch for is the rivet heads being worn down until one day (on a runway of course) the downforce is sufficient to tear it off at over 150 mph...

Makes a lot of noise/vibration and scares the cr4p out of you for a second or so.

Left mine off ever since.

They only scrape when they are near the ground, mainly anything that is higher that a few mm.

mine doesnt scrape at all.the previous owner lived near a few heafty speed bumps.so he lifted the coilover suspension which comes standard on all nobles to a height that got over them ok.ive not altered them as it makes for easy living where i live regarding the state of the roads.if i was going to track it then i would drop it to the weeds so to speak.when i refurbed the shocks and springs i did lower it to its max and did look awesome.i was going to lift it slightly and buy higher poundage springs to stiffen it up a little then wondered if it might upset the balance a bit.i have the 2 big spanners to undo the top locking spring cups so with all wheels off takes no more than an hour to higher or lower as i please.biggest problem is most will have siezed top cups and threads

I messed with my ride heights to make the car look good after putting nitros on and the car would not go around corners. After correcting the ride height back to factory settings and then re-tracking, it's now good again.
Just a word of warning.

yep agree totally.but i do use the car for some shows and the lowered look makes it look really mean .would like to know if people who have tracked their nobles if the factory setting is ultimate for all tracks or have you trieddifferent settings to acheive better lap times.we all know lots on here have had the tops machined to aid camber etc.has this helped?.i race a 125 rotax max kart and fiddle with the settings for every track and as the noble is a big kart with doors i might asume the same

I use mine everyday to travel to clients and spend plenty of time in london etc and mine scrapes only through the ford at the bottom of my road.... Ive also taken mine through the centre of amsterdam including their underground car parks which is saying something for a lowslung sports car... so Id say the splitter is no problem at all.

I found very little online about this topic when I was researching as I was in the process of buying a Noble 3R without the splitter. As it's fresh in my mind I thought I'd add something.
In my opinion the noble looks great without the addition of one. In real life for those that aren't familiar with the noble It appears lower in real life than in many pictures and like the M400 there's no massive deal about not having it on there. It's low enough from a visual point of view and it looks classy, perhaps more refined.
I basically went through the Pro's & Cons because as nice as the car is without it and although Friends & family said they wouldn't add anything to the look, unless you have an M400 the Noble is meant to have the splitter on there so while it may be personal taste I at least wanted the choice as I was in two minds after a couple of weeks.

The Official Noble Splitter cost me £195 plus VAT. They come in primer and not painted. If you want it painted I think it costs Approx £60, I got charged £40. My dealership charged me £20 for their delivery and after they fitted it the cost wasn't anything like £200 as I thought but £367.00. You will save yourself money if you paint and fit it yourself obviously. The paint is satin black, no lacquer was used and no chip protector etc.

All along my concern was it being too low but surprisingly it wasn't. There are a few areas which I take slow, either large dips in the road and parking it on drives or some raised/steep areas isn't a good idea. You also have to be careful of general parking because the splitter sticks out further than you think. If you are cautious and are lucky to live around fairly normal flat roads I can't see the splitter being a problem at all. The people who advised me getting one would make the car look boy racer-ish etc now see why the Noble's looks are actually enhanced with it on. It looks more complete, lower (in a good way) and just a meaner/better look. Some photo's of the nose look high without the splitter on. I think if anyone becomes in two minds about getting one I would recommend it. For those that prefer it without, it doesn't make any difference to the performance, if anything it makes the car lighter and you have to worry less about stone chips and scrapes in certain areas.
