I must say that I am enjoying this sub-forum immensely, a distinct lack of trolling and opinionated nonsense!

I thought I'd recommend a book I received this week to give me ideas for a Middle Eastern themed evening I'm hosting in a weeks time...

Moroccan Modern by Hassan M'Souli is a great intro to Moroccan/Middle Eastern food, and has some lovely looking recipes that seem pretty easy to follow (I'm modifying a tajine recipe and having a go at it tonight).

Anyone want to share their Middle Eastern recipes?

thumbupI've been contemplating getting something like that as the only ME cookery book I've got is a skinny thing picked up in the cheap bin in Sainsbury's about 20 years ago.

Last night we had griddled lamb steak with fried aubergine slices and a really simple tomato sauce (IIRC tbs olive oil, fry garlic, add 2 chopped toms, a splash of white wine vinegar and a teaspoon of sugar, cook for a few minutes.)

Bloody lovely.

I'm making a tajine with a mixture of lamb cutlets and chump end chops with a basic sofrito (red onion, garlic, shallots, finely diced red peppers). Chickpeas, tomatoes, harissa paste and plenty of fresh herbs. Served with yoghurt, pitta and spiced cous cous.

If it's photo worthy, and any good I might post a pic.

I can really, really recommend Arabesque by Claudia Roden. Absolutely cracking book.
